  1. UK is a terrible place for the finals in my opinion, no atmosphere and too many empty seats to change that.  On Cats game day the students have to move their cars.  That would have been the least they could have done and I do not mean every lot but some of the lots near the stadium.  Parking was terrible as was the atmosphere.

  2. Mayfield Senior Kicker Lincoln Suiter lives in a small WKY  town where football is king. After the tornado devastated Mayfield, the community looked for it's beloved Cardinal football team to bring  a glimmer of hope, something to help the community forget the reality of the devastation, something to believe in, to cheer for, to help heal.  Lincoln missed a field goal and a late extra point in the 2022 state championship game in a 14 - 13 loss to Beechwood. The weight of the loss weighed heavy on Lincoln but here is his story of redemption.

I apologize for raining on the Cards’ parade but I need to ask if they will be down some next year?  They lose Cartwright, Starks, Biggers, Dumas.  And I think another key WR.  Will they still be a state title contender in 2024?  Such an awesome program so maybe there is talent waiting in the wings.

Mayfield is blessed to have some unreal younger classes at the moment and you can never count them out. This is a question for another day and thread for now.

Mayfield has only lost to one team more than once in their 25 state title game appearances and that’s Danville, that has beaten them all 5 times they have faced off in championship games. Danville has also beat them several other times in final four matchups keeping the Cardinals out of multiple other state finals games. Danville has definitely historically been Mayfield’s Achilles heel that has kept them from achieving even far more success than their long list of achievements that they have compiled despite the Danville curse.

True to the word but I will add what I posted as part of it from what I have been told by old timers.

I’ve asked this before but never got a clear answer. Mayfield is one of the winningest teams in the country, not just the Bluegrass. What took so long for Mayfield to reach the state finals, once the playoffs started in 1959 (which we can all agree was too long of a wait considering basketball started way before that)? I know many teams claim a poll championship, does Mayfield claim any? They have a super impressive history just curious is all. Good luck and safe travels to both teams.

Tons of great teams and several undefeated teams from way back then but its hard to garner media to support you this far West where there are no major populations centers.  That's my opinion for what its worth. In addition, a couple number one ranked teams that got upset would be the rest of the answer.

  6. Alot of OC offense and Atwell talk and certainly deserved, but I am shock at the lack of talk about the double headed monster in the Mayfield Offense. I, as a true arm chair quarterback/ex player who thinks he knows it all, think that this is a great match up for the Cards offense.  After watching OC vs Owensboro, Somerset and N Hardin I drew a few conclusions of my own. The Cards have the best offense OC has seen so far and I think its by a wide margin.  OC can commit to stopping Starks running and some kid no one seems to mention can pick them apart in the air or OC can commit to stopping this nameless Cards QB and Starks can have a hay day.  If OC tries to do both I see the Cards lighting up the scoreboard like that Ace's High Pin Ball Machine in the corner of the local gas station. Did I happen to mention I think the Cards are better up front on both sides.  This should get some great opinions so let's hear what the rest of you arm chair QB's think.

I guessing OC will be home team since they #1 in RPI but not sure can anyone clarify?

Yes OC is home team and will be on the South side of Commonwealth Stadium.  Mayfield as visitors due to lower RPI is on the North side.  Tixs are already on sale.  If your a Mayfield fan, the North visitors side is all general admission.  If your a OC fan, between the 30's is reserve seating.  Strong chance of rain so you can also get tixs for the hospitality suite known as the Long Ship.  Its not a good spot to watch the game from inside though but it will keep you dry and tied to good seats outside.  Cost is obviously more.
