  1. All around ugly game! Somerset had a few chances but Breathitt Co. seemed to shut down every drive. If anything, I think Somerset's youth and inexperience was exposed. It's really hard to replace 19 seniors and expect to pick up right where they left off. The Jumpers still have a load of talent... come post season, Coach Lucas will have 'em ready, these younger players will be battle tested and the Briar Jumpers should be clicking on all cylinders. Best wishes the remainder of the year.

  2. Somerset's Storm Wilson has been invited to attend the Chicago Area Code Showcase.

He's currently playing for Somerset Post 38 Twins (American Legion) and is having a monster summer.

The switch-hitting catcher/outfielder processes speed, power and quickness.

My 2 cents; he's the best leadoff hitter (if not the best everyday player) in the state.

If college coaches are watching, better sign him early!

Lots of buzz every night he plays...

  3. What was the situation when the played occurred? Score, number of outs, men on base, etc.? I couldn't quite make it out from the video. Thanks.
Mercer was down 4-3, with 2 outs and runners on 3rd & 2nd. Routine fly ball to right field, that was just misplayed. Prior to that play, there was another routine play/turned error as the PRP shortstop fielded an odd looking grounder...it appeared to me that the PRP 2nd baseman didn't get there in time for the force out at second and the throw went all the way to the RF wall, scoring 2 runs, thus setting up the next play.
  4. Central Hardin and Mercer County ... something tells me that isn't the final everyone predicted. Wow.
Gotta confess, this was our finals. I actually picked Central Hardin to take the title. Something tells me Mercer wins the 2011 State Championship 6-3 over Central Hardin.

    Best wishes to both teams!!

  5. Yeah...I get a lump in my throat just thinking about what it would be like if that were my kid. As happy as I am for Mercer I can't help but feel really bad for that kid. Man........
My heart goes out to this young man and his family. I was sitting with my son in the stands thinking the very same thing, what if it were him? We talked about this on the way home tonight...it's not a matter of if, but when...we all face points in our life where we step back and say what just happen? PRP, congratulations on a great season. Right now more than ever, this young man needs you to embrace him. That one play will always be remembered, but if you were at the game, you too can count many opportunities PRP didn't or couldn't take advantage of. Our prayers go out to he and his family.
  6. Somerset's Jarred Price hit Somerset's 44th HR of the year, in a 4-3 win over crosstown rival Southwestern in the opening round of the 12th region tournament. In tonights semi-finals games, Somerset / West Jessimine will play at 5:30 and Pulaski Co / Mercer Co at 8:00.

All games are being played at Southwestern High School.

  7. Somerset defeats Casey county in the first round of the 47th district tournament. Ben Purcell (SR) pitched 5 solid innings striking out 5.

JP Henderlight (SR) picked up the save. The offence was led by seniors Taylor Sears and David VanHook with 2 hits apiece.

Somerset will face Pulaski Co. in the finals tonight at PC field. Game time is scheduled for 7:00 pm

  8. Congratulations to the 6 Somerset seniors, they go out in an impressive fashion against cross-town rival Southwestern. This group of 6 seniors are a special bunch. 3 of the 6 have already been awarded college scholarships, with the remaining 3 expecting to sign any day.

  9. .

Through 31 games this season, Somerset has 37 home runs. All nine starters have gone yard the past two years.

Somerset's field is the largest in the 12th region at 375' center, 345' power allies and 320' down the lines.

Add to more to the count (39) as the Jumpers hit 2 more HRs tonight against Southwestern
