  1. One of the things that I find impressive about this year’s Tomcats is the O-line. They were a question mark going into the season, only because they were untested (Kosakowski being the only returning full-time starter). But, they have performed very, very well.

And our coaches keep having to find and train new linemen. Because starters Ben Stringer (Sr) and Kyle Wessel (Jr) are both out with season ending knee injuries. I didn’t know Wessel was out for the season until last night - but, he is.

So, two new linemen have had to step up to take their place. C. J. Suttles (Jr) 6’1” 225 lbs and R. J. Johnson (Jr) 6’1” 220 lbs answered the call last night. They joined Nik Kosakowski (Sr), Proc Robinson (Sr) and Trent Hardy (Jr) on the O-line.

Keep up the good work - you make everyone look good. :thumb:

Sounds like Ashland is set for next year, too. This season might "kick off" a good run of years for Ashland football.

Are they going to continue in the same district for the foreseeable future or are they supposed to change soon? It seems like I recall a discussion on here last year how Ashland might move to another district at some point.

  2. When this game started out, it certainly seemed like it was going to look like the usual Russell-West Carter matchup with Russell getting out to a 14-0 lead in the 1st quarter. West Carter deserves a lot of credit for hanging in there even after things went wrong and making it a good game. Russell deserves credit for doing the same and making several important defensive stops in the 4th quarter. The Russell secondary, which has done a good job all season long, held West Carter to only 1 yard of passing on a 4 of 19 performance by West Carter QB Harrison Bond. Patrick Cooper got 2 more interceptions for Russell. I think that's his fifth or sixth ones this year. He's doing a great job in the secondary for the Devils.

On another note, does anyone know what happened to Jesse White-Reed? I haven't seen or heard from him in the past couple of games.

  3. I don't look for Raceland to have much of a problem going to Paris and coming away with a win. I would like to see Barr get some action, though, before the 3 big games to end the regular season. After this one, all that's left are a couple of tough home games against Fairview and Russell and one momumentally tough road game at LCA.

  4. GREENUP CO PROVE ME WRONG

    ROWAN CO 38

    GREENUP CO 24

    Rowan Co ppg 44.6 Def 20.1 +24.5

    Greenup ppg 14.4 Def 32.4 -18.0

Rowan Co is 4-2 losing two games by a total of 8 points

Rowan Co lost to a tough Mason Co by only two pts.

Rowan Co features a very very good backfield.

    Greenup Co 2-3

Greenup Co had two weeks to get ready for Dawson Bryant HS and lost

Even with Carter rushing for a school record 270 yards.

Greenup Co wins. vs the smallest football program in Ohio +4. And to a down and beat up 1A Raceland +1.

Greenup Co better come up with a defense vs Rowan Co power offense.

I think Carter can keep the team in the game with some blocking and a lot of his own talent. But Rowan Co has it's own proven special running back that will offset Carter. The defense will tell who wins this game. And imo Rowan Co has the better one. I know someone will come up with, stats don't tell it all. But at mid season they tell alot. I think Greenup Co has been playing really hard from what I hear. Greenup is just lacking talent. A good coach can make a team better. And good players make a coach look even better.

    GOOD LUCK MUSKIES

That's the best analysis of this game that can be done. Carter has given Greenup's offense enough of boost to make them competitive in their district. Until the defense improves, though, I don't see them getting it done. Like Rams68 said, I hope Greenup proves me wrong.

  5. Breathitt's star, Channing Fugate, was hurt on the second play of the game. He left the game and was taken to the hospital. Some report a hip injury. Really unknown at this point.

Wow. This has turned out to be a disappointing senior year for him. I really thought he would be the player of the year in Kentucky this year. Maybe it's karma for him committing to Tennessee. :D J/K

In all seriousness, I hope he's OK and can have a decent finish to the year.

  6. Let's see...Carter has played 2 games for Greenup County so far. In the first one, he tears off a 70 yard TD run to give his team the lead against their big intra-county rival and then blocks a kick to put the game away. In the second one, he breaks the school record for rushing yards by going for over 270 yards. Yeah, I'd say this guy is some kind of special talent. He's going to give his old running mate Alber some competition for area player of the year! :-)

I still can't get over the irony of Greenup having to face that duo in week 1. They drew the shortest straw on that one.

  7. Nice win for the Tomcats. Congratulations on being 6-0.

Waverly’s D1 QB must have had an off night. I give the Tomcat D credit for that. I sure wouldn’t trade QBs with Waverly. Sam does a great job. I can’t wait to see the stats in the morning paper.

Alber had another good night – what a warrior. He delivered a vicious block for Sam that sprung a first down late in the game – what a hit. Rogers (#25) looked very good too.

Trent Hardy had some great tackles - I see you out there #74.

    Wow. High praise.

  8. Congratulations again to Mason County. They truly have a legitimate shot to represent the eastern side of the state in this year's 3A title game.

That's a couple weeks in a row, though, that I've heard Mason hasn't looked too sharp. Looking at their remaining schedule, it looks like Russell is the most difficult game they have left and they've got that one at home (and Russell isn't as strong as Mason this year anyway). Mason County needs to stay on top of their game to be ready for the playoffs!

  9. Good win for Ashland against a team that had a great QB. I guess Waverly didn't have a defense to put up a fight against Alber and the Ashland offense. Now the Tomcats can take a brief breather and get ready for what is sure to be a fired up Johnson Central team looking to make something out of a season that went south earlier in the year.

  10. Russell scores 14 in the first quarter and can't get a score after that. Russell scores on a 50 yard pass play and a Travis Jones run. Travis Jones ran for over 200 yards tonight, but he had over 170 in the 1st half. West Carter shut Russell down completely in the 2nd half. Fortunately for Russell, though, their defense came through and pretty much shut West Carter down as well. Extra points turned out to be the difference in this one. Russell made them and West Carter didn't. Overall, it was a good district win for Russell at West Carter with the Comets having what most said was one of their better teams in a while. Good job Devils.
