  1. Congratulations to Lex Cath for having won the 11th two years straight.

With that said I have to take back my post that Scott County's program is the blueprint for success in the 11th region.

Lexington Catholic's program is the blueprint for success as they no question develop players better than anyone else starting with their middle school program. They have more quality homegrown players because their system is better. As a matter of fact other programs have benefitted from players they helped develop.

I wouldn't say that they have all homegrown players, considering there best player, Vee Sanford came for Lafayette.

About you saying my logic isn't right on the foul call , all I said is if it wasn't a clear foul it shouldn't get called. If it's obvious make the call everytime, but I have watched the tape And it looked like Guyn got a lot of ball there.

With that said, I'm not bitter about the loss, maybe a little upset last night. Catholic played a great game and deserved the win as they did outplay Scott County last night. That 2-2-1 press has always given Billy trouble for whatever reason. And once again, what a game last night, these two teams battle each other like no other.

  2. Okay , just another comment, just because Holmes defense is averaging 46 ppg and Elliott offense is scoring like 80+ ppg doesn't mean that both teams aren't good on the other end of the court. Those numbers are going to mean nothing next week and if these two teams play I would expect a score somewhere in the mid 60s for both teams in a close/great game.

  3. Alright Les, you're going to like this, I'm picking Corbin. All they have to do is get past that first game against Eastern and it should be smooth sailing to the title game where I'm thinking they will have more legs than the teams battling it out in the lower bracket. If Corbin does happen to lose to Eastern then they would be my 2nd pick.

  4. I know Ethan is a great player, but I have to disagree, Jackson will clearly be the best player at the next level. It's not like Jackson doesn't score either, he just doesn't do it with 3 pointers very often. However, when he does shoot outside, he does seem to knock them down. I would be interested to see his percentage for the year from beyond the arc.

  5. I saw Euton and Jackson several times last year at Rose Hill and 5-6 times this season at SC.

I kind of agree, that I am not overly impressed by either player. Jackson definitely made more progress than Euton over the course of the season. Euton seems to have peaked about a year ago.

Worries me about Euton's prospects at UK. He is basically a spot up (when open) shooter. If we can't get Meeks an open look, I don't see how Euton is getting those open looks in the SEC.

You can say that Euton may not be UK material, but the kid is a really good high school player and I don't believe you have watched these two players that much especially if your not impressed by Jackson. This kid is easily the best true point guard in the state and does his job well. He doesn't shoot a lot of jumpers because he doesn't need to. Tonight he had some turnovers with a poorly planned press offense, but the kid has been incredibly solid at not commiting turnovers throughout the season.

  6. I said it before and I'll say it again, Offense wins ballgames, but DEFENSE wins championships. With the way this team is playing defense, it's going to be a fun time in Rupp.

As far as the great defense thing goes, it would be impressive if the score was like 60-29, that would indicate great defense for sure but 32-29 to me just says that this game was played at an incredibly slow pace. I still think Holmes is a really good team but I think people are giving them a little too much credit for the defense.

  7. I'm sure we will see a different Holmes team during the state since they won't be playing any more 9th region teams and teams like Lex. Cath. and Elliott won't allow the pace to be this slow. I'm also pretty sure that Holmes will be just fine with that style of play too though. They are fun to watch when playing against other athletic teams with all the talent they have, but it had to be boring watcing that regional tourney.

  8. This was a tough loss for my Cards, but this had to be the game of the year. The intensity level was so high and at one point the entire crowd, both sides, were up cheering as loud as they could. Another instant classic between these two powerhouses.

The turnovers hurt Scott late, but there was no doubt this game was gonna be won by whoever got the last shot off. I do disagree with the last foul call with 3 seconds left to put Catholic on the line to take the lead, unless there's a clear foul there the refs shouldn't decide the game. I would be interested for anyone who went to the game or watched it online to tell me what they thought about that call.

  9. The loss of Phares is obviously a big deal, but even without him Scott County has more talent than pretty much everyone else in the state and without him next year they are likely to be number one or two preseason depending on how the season finishes. In my opinion Scott County is still the favorite to win this one and I'll stick with my win by 8 prediction.

  10. True...but honestly, it's much tougher to get out of the 9th this year, than the 10th.

Tradition has nothing to do with THIS YEAR.

I wouldn't say that it's really that much tougher to get out of the 9th, I would have to say it's pretty equal. I understand that getting past Holmes is difficult and Boone is pretty tough too but it's not like the 9th is absolutely loaded like say the 7th. Mason and Clark are both good teams too who would be capable of winning the 9th, I'm not saying the would do it but they could.

  11. It's been a pleasure to watch Richie turn into a star since his sophomore season, and I know he wanted to lead this team to the state title and his second state title. He may still get a ring if Scott County goes on to win without him, but it just won't be the same for him.

As for his college career, hopefully he will get healed up as soon as possible and be able to show some coaches what he is made of.

Good luck Richie, you've been one of the hardest working big men I've seen play at Scott County and you have the talent to match your work ethic.

  12. Wasn't the final 78-68...not 78-58?

Yes, it was a 10 point win and an extremely hard fought one at that. Richie Phares went down in the 1st quarter with a knee injury and couldn't play the rest of the game. He was walking on it so hopefully he will be okay to play on Tuesday night , i would hate for him to have to watch such a big game from the sidelines.

Considering i was expecting this to be at least a 20 point game, this was very stressful and i hope this is Scott County's mulligan game.

On the other hand, Euton stepped up in this game and freshman Isiah Ivey really stepped up too which was huge with Chad Jackson getting his fourth foul in the third quarter. I'm just glad to see Scott County survive this one and I hope they come to play Tuesday night.
