  1. The only reason that they won't hire Napier for coach is that he isn't going to bring any players with him like Noble or Lively would. If they hire Lively they are going to get Salyers back, and if they hire Noble they are going to get both Nick and Josh back. Not to mention Doug's middle school sons who are pretty good and the Hensley's man middle school son who is not to bad himself.

The posting for Mr. Napier was a joke--you must be thinking of Denny Fugate who was the Coach at MC Napier many years ago. He played college basketball at EKU in the late 70's. :dancingpa I have heard that is a viable candidate--great friends with the AD--and would bring several athletes with him, etc! He could be a GREAT hire for the supt.!!

  2. I agree Owsley does need to have a plan for when or if Coach Noble decides to leave. I also agree they need to get someone within the school system or the county to coach. I would love to see Dan Marshall take over but that is probably unlikely as Owsley passed on him and decided to hire Buddy Cornwell a couple years ago, we all know who that worked out. I highly doubt that Gary Cornett would take over because he is the assistant coach for the girls and likes that position where he has night classes. I would like to see Bobby Bowling who was the assistant coach under Greg Parrett get the oppurnity to coach he has been chopping at the bit to coach. Get someone that is going to stay in Owsley and get this program built back to where it use to be in the late 90's. Heck who knows Tim Bobrowski might even come back let's all hope for that.

I doubt that Tim would want to coach again--but who knows. I am sure the district administrators are thinking about the future of the boys program and will do what they feel is best for the athletes and the program. The timing of a potential vacancy will definitely present a challenge for the school district--but I am sure a lot of thought will go into any decision made.

  3. I talked to a person that will help with the hiring of the new coach last night and he told me that there has been only two so far put in for this job. One was Doug Noble and the other was Kyle Lively. They also said that another had talked of being interested but hasn't really come forth yet. I will wait to see if he does before I mention his name. You guys are crazy if you think that Doug wouldn't be interested in this job. He has wanted it for the last 10 years.

Absolutely--This would be a "dream job" for any Breathitt Countian who has a passion for coaching and basketball ----butttttttttttt--you would be getting into a situation that is RULED by politics--not "what's best for education and athletics"--that is the facts--Breathitt basketball would not be where it is today if it was not for the politics. If people think it is going to change--they are kidding themselves. IMO Doug is a class act and does not need to get caught back up in the mess of Breathitt County politics--but of course it is Doug's decision.

  4. If the administration and the people in Owsley County support him and his position is pretty secure there, he should think long and hard and leaving that situation for the Breathitt County job.

    I'll speculate a little...

Breathitt has passed on him numerous times. Why are the suddenly legitimately interested in him? The only new variable in the equation is his nephew, Nick Noble. Ironically, he's the best PG prospect I've seen at Breathitt High in some time and he'll no doubt return to the team if his uncle takes the head coaching job. After observing the way things operate in Breathitt County, I don't feel like I'm going out on a limb to suggest that Nick Noble could be reason number one why they want Doug to coach. Somebody mentioned a 4-year guarantee...I'd say two is more likely.;)

I wouldn't fault Doug Noble either way...I can understand wanting to be closer to home. It makes work much more convenient and allows you more personal time. I can also understand if he's a bit skeptical/hesitant about taking the job considering the track record Breathitt County has with basketball coaches. If he's satisfied and happy and Owsley County and doesn't mind the drive and other inconveniences that go with working further away, then I think he should stay.

As a Breathitt County fan, I'd love to see him get the job...if the powers that be would actually let him do the job. I think they should have hired him at least 10 years ago and I think he'd be a great coach, a great fit and a great representative for Breathitt County. But, more than likely if they did hire him, they wouldn't leave him alone and let him do the job. So, from that perspective, I hate to see a good man in the situation that is Breathitt County basketball coach.

Breathitt's basketball coach has been treated far more like a political appointee than a real coach in my lifetime. It may change, but I'm not holding my breath.

You are 100% on it IMO! I do trust that Doug will see through the smoke screen set up by Arch! It is too ironic to be for real and sincere that all of a sudden Arch wants Doug to come to Breathitt. Doug should be smart enough to see through it--But I know it looks inviting--it would to any Breathitt countian--but history doesn't lie. People do not change overnight--and neither does Arch.

  5. I hope that Coach Noble stays in Owsley. Needs to open his eyes and realize what Breathitt has done to him in the past, and that they are only hiring him to get his nephew Nick back on the team. Owsley County supports him and are dedicated to him.

You have got that right! Just wait and see--let Nick and Salyers get back--practice 1 minute in football or any other sport at BHS and the heat will be on--Doug will wish he had stayed at OCHS--but it will be tooooo late!!

  6. I look fro Breathitt to improve alot this year. Not sure that they will be challegeing Hazard for the region title but things get crazy in the region. Maybe last year will be a experience that the player dont want to go threw agian.

They should improve--you would think that a school with 180 freshmen--should be able to dress a basketball team that would at least have wins over teams other than Cornerstone Christian Academy. They really have no where to go but UP! IMO

  7. Owsley County has been through some coaches however looks are decieving.

Bobrowski, left to become an administrator in another district.

Hicks: left to take another coaching job at a larger school

Parrett: Left to coach at a larger school that is closer to his home.

These are reasons that people dont often consider when they talk about the coaching situation at Owsley County.

Thank you for explaining to those people, who obviously are eager to criticize Owsley the REST of the STORY!:thumb:

  8. Why wouldn't they it is another year and another coach for Owsley. Seems about right

You need to know one thing. Owsley does look at resumes! And I am sure that Owsley does not look forward to hiring a coach every year. Coaches have left for reasons that were expected to enhance their futures--if Doug leaves-- this again is the case. Coach Parrett and Coach Noble will not tell anyone that they did not and have not had the full support of the school, etc.

  9. I would certainly hate to lose Doug Noble at Owsley County. He is a class act, and has the support he needs at Owsley. He has a heck of a middle school group coming up through the system. He's a very dedicated person, and is much appreciated by this Owsley County fan. Hopefully he will be back next season.

    GO OWLS!!!

You are right on Professor! The Middle School kids are in tears thinking that Coach Noble might leave. They have really grown close to him this year. I hope they do not get let down.

  10. I have learned that most rumors are NOT true. I don't know if Coach Noble will return to Owsley (he should), but I can guarantee you the Banks will not be there.

You are so right--Coach Noble should return to Owsley. They gave him a head coaching job when Breathitt ignored him. I know it would be tough to pass up a Breathitt job--if the head administrator was different--but after a brief honeymoon--it will back to usual for the head Bobcat! Noble BEWAre!!

  11. From what I have heard, the super wants the Fugate kid back on the team because of the pressure his family is applying. If Noble gets the job and his nephew returns as the point guard then the Fugate kid will not play and therefore I don't think Noble will be able to get the job. I think the Allen kid that played a couple years ago also wants to play the point guard position and will not play otherwise, so that is another reason that Noble will not get the job. I don't think Breathitt wants to lose the Fugate kid as a football player, so the new coach will probably be someone who will play him at he point.

Are the Fugate's any relation to Denny Fugate--the Perry Central Assistant Coach--last season??

What about Kyle Lively? He's a Breathitt County boy????

  12. I dont see Doug staying at Owsley, with what arch told me he would be insane to stay. He is getting a guarenteed 4 year contract no matter how good they do or how bad they do.

There is no such thing as:confused: a legitimate four year contract in school level positions like coaches. He might give him one verbally--but Arch has been known to change his mind---politics as usual????

  13. Prof, exactly how many head coaches have the Owls had in the last 10-15 years???

They had Charlie Turner, Larry Sparks and

Tim Bobrowski--over a period of about 19 years--for the last 10 years the Owls have had bad luck when it comes to retaining a solid boy's coach. Coach Parrett and Coach Noble were great hires--but Booneville was and is a drive for them. Coach Parrett left to take a job at a much larger North Laurel, close to his home--If Coach Noble should leave--it would be to a much larger school, close to his home. Just remember Coach Noble is not gone yet---and knowing Breathitt politics like he should--he just might not buy in to Arch's rhetoric and promises--but I'm sure it would be tempting?????Owsley--offers lots of support to its athletic programs--but as a small town, class A school --coaches as of late have seemed to look at it as a stop on their way to bigger things. Coach Noble needs to just take a mind trip back a few years--and that should confirm his decision to stay in BOONEVILLE. The OWLS could be a great team to watch in 2008 with Noble #1 on the bench and the other Noble on the court along with the other kids:dancingpa!

  14. I am sure Arch will make a strong push for Mr. Noble--that is how he works--so the question is-"will Mr. Noble leave a secure and appreciated position at Owsley, where he has the ultimate support of the administration and the kids love him"--back to a place where politics reign supreme--only to last for a couple of years--if lucky--with the supt. telling him who to play and what offense and defense to run--?? Doug has been the victim of Breathitt County politics several times before--It would be great for him to be able to be close to home---but sometimes that is not ultimately the best situation for you. I know Doug will have a tough emotional decision to make--if he is indeed offered the job, which I am sure he probably will be--Mr. Noble is a class act and I hope he will search deep and make a decision that will move him forward in his coaching career. He has a lot of years left in the teaching and coaching profession---And based on historical facts--it is not in the cards for someone to last at BHS for more than 3 or 4 years. Looks to me that this job is for someone like Denny Fugate who could retire anytime he chooses--so he can be Arch's buddy for a couple of years--then go on to other things. The young coaches in the area deserve something better than the Breathitt County Politics!!:fight::fire:

  15. I have heard that there may be 4 schools making changes next year due to various reasons. A good A.D. is vitale to any school's sports and morale. An A.D. could be full or part time, but it doesnt matter if the responsibilities are handled correctly. Other than scheduling, voting on regional and district issuses, what else is an A.D. required to do?

Are AD's in most school districts school administrators, coaches, teachers, or just anyone who is in favor with the local politics?

  16. :thumb:Couldnt agree with you more. Sorry about the confusion ,sounds like you know as much as I do.

    :thumb:

I have heard that Cornett may not be 100% interested in the head coaching position--but there are some other local individuals with varsity coaching experience that may be interested in the head job. I am sure a decision will be made soon.
