  1. So BW starting lineup will have 3 seniors, 1 junior, 4 sophmores and 1 freshman. I guess freshman Brilz will not start and may be used in relief if needed.

    P- Senior Snyder

    C- Frosh Hyde

    1B- Senior Smith

    2B Soph Colosimo

    SS- Soph Larimore

    3B- Soph Bertke

    LF- Soph Youtzee(SP?)

    CF- Senior Hyde

    RF Junior Colosimo

Frosh Brilz plays 1 ST AND 3 RD depending on who is pitching. He may be first reliever tonight.

The 2 Hyde and 2 Colosimo players are brothers. The 2 soph Bertke are cousins.

A very tall order for such a young team to take on a very good Cov Cath team. But I do believe you will know they are there.:thumb:

    He's a Freshman as well.

  2. Conner is better than NCC at this point in the season. So, it will make for a better final game to have Nutini pitching rather than Isler. I expected Krumps to pull Ice after getting up 7-0 after 2. Like most everyone around here, I still expect CC to win but the chances for an upset will be higher without the big man on the rubber (literally). (Assuming Conner wins of course - BW w/o Smith will have zero chance vs. CC).

    Should they even show?

  3. I was just throwing out a "what if" scenario, not that it really matters since they'll never go to a seeded tournament anyways. My point is that it's just kind of a shame that the #1, #2, and #3 seeds are on the same side of the bracket. Such is life. I know there are people that will come up with the "you have to beat the best if you want to be the best" mantra, but that doesn't apply quite as well in baseball as it does in basketball, football, etc... because one player (pitcher) in baseball can change the entire complexion of a team.

At the end of the day, someone is going to have to step up big time if they want to knock off CCH. Probably not all that likely, but certainly not impossible either.

I'm not sure where your getting your seeds from. Obviously, CCH is the #1 seed. After that you could have 4 or 5 of the teams at #2, 3, 4 or 5. How would you determine the seeding? By their records? If that's the case then someone could be 2nd in their district and still be the second seed. That's why I feel the way it's done is the best way.

  4. Actually, I would submit that CCH caught a small bad break in the draw. They are obviously the clearcut #1 seed and, had it been seeded bracketing, should have been matched up against #8 seed St. Henry anyways. But Ryle and NCC are the obvious #2 and #3 seeds (you can debate the which one is #2) and would have been on the other side of the bracket and CCH would not have met either one until the finals. If this had happened, I think it's a pretty safe bet they hold back Isler until the championship game, but that becomes a much bigger risk to do so now.

Not that it matters, but if it had been a seeded tourney, it probably would have looked something like:

    #1 CCH vs. #8 St. H

    #4/5 Conner vs. #4/5 Dixie

    #2 Ryle vs. #7 HHS

    #3 NCC vs. #6 BHS

Coop that's impossible since you can't have two teams from the same district on the same side of the bracket.

  5. Wow, must be nice to be so sure of yourself. Perhaps they should just cancel the tournament and crown CCH champs now. It would save everyone of the inconvenience of having to play such meaningless games.

Of the 4 times Ryle played CCH this year, the scores of 3 of the games were 2-1, 2-1, and 4-2. I'd say Ryle has a chance . . . .

I never said they were meaningless games but you are 0 and 4 against them. You were complaining about the seeding. I just stated you'd have to play them at one point or another, might as well be the second round. And yes, this year CCH is by far the hands down favorite.

  6. I think Ryle caught a bad break being in the same bracket as CCH. Hard to dispute that Ryle is the #2 team right now in NKY. Ryle vs. NCC is a very tough matchup (for both teams) and I would have preferred to see them on the other side of the bracket from the #1 team.

There only advantage of being on the other side is they might have a chance to make it to finals; however, they would still need to beat CCH and that's not gonna happen.

  7. Especially when you consider the "what in the heck was he doing calling a squeeze with 2 strikes" play that resulted in an out right before that.

Krumps tried it twice against Beechwood. I think it was a gutsy call. Had the batter been able to get the ball down fair, it would've scored two runs.

  8. CovCath top of the 1st:

Nutini 8, Siemer hbp, Maile hits a ball to the third baseman (with the seat I had, I couldn't see if the first baseman didn't catch it, or if it was a bad throw) E-5or3 men on 1st and 3rd one out. Maile steals second base and the Beechwood catchers throw the ball into CF for a error that allows Siemer to score.

    Beechwood 1st: K (1), K (2), 5-3 on 12 pitches.

CovCath leads after one complete inning 1-0 on a HBP and two Beechwood errors.

CovCath 2nd: Holocher walks, Lafever goes hbp, men on 1st and second no outs. Schlagbaum get a sac bunt down 1-3 moving the runners up while making the first out of the inning. Then the strange play of the game! Martin with a 2-2 count tries to lay down a bunt, but he misses the ball and the Beechwood catcher misses the called strike and Holocher comes in with the second run. It was a heads up play by the Holocher as the ball was not foul tipped so it was not a dead ball. The Beechwood coach tried to get the man in blue to change his mind, but from my seat next to the back stop I didn't hear the tip, nor did I see the ball change it's direction. The Beechwood catcher just missed the ball.

    Beechwood 2nd: K (3), 9, 5-3 (14) pitches

After two complete innings it's CovCath 2 Beechwood 0 without CovCath getting a single hit in the game so far.

    CovCath 3rd: Maile 4-3, Darner 6-3 and Isler 5-3

    Beechwood 3rd: K (4), 3, 1 (6) pitches

After three complete it's still CovCath 2 Beechwood 0

CovCath 4th: Holocher hbp, Lafever sac bunt, moving Holocher to second with one out. Schlagbaum goes 3, and then Martin 3 to end the inning.

    Beechwood 4th: K (5), K (6), K (7) (15) pitches

End of 4 complete innings it's still CovCath 2 Beechwood 0

CovCath 5th: Nutini tries to bunt but goes 2-3, Siemer hbp (in the head) Maile hits a single, runner on first and second with one out. Darner on a 0-2 count hits a shot over the Right Fielders head for a triple (5) and knocks in Siemer and Maile for 2 RBI's (55 & 56).

Beechwood 5th: Snyder gets a single, J. Colosimo gets a single but Larimore hits a ball to Holocher who steps on second and then throws the ball to Krumme for a DP. Snyder on third two outs, and Smith goes K (8) to end the innings (13) pitches.

End of 5 complete innings with CovCath 5 Beechwood 0

CovCath 6th: Schlagbaum 5-3 Martin walks, Nutini gets hbp, both more up on a WP, Siemer goes 5-3 and Maile 4 to end the inning.

    Beechwood 6th 5-3, K (9), K (10) (12) pitches

    End of 6 complete it's CovCath 5 Beechwood 0

CovCath 7th: Darner gets a double, Isler goes 5-3, Holocher K and Lafever goes 1-3.

    Beechwood 7th: K (11), K (12) and 2 to end the game (10) pitches.

The good: Isler pitching WOW. As I stated UC gets the steal of the year in signing Ice. Darner continues to knock in the runs, and Holocher is playing outstanding in the field and at the plate.

    The bad: Nothing at all.

The ugly: Sorry, but the Beechwood baseball field grass infield and the height of the grass. The Tigers took home field advantage to a new high by not cutting the grass in at least a couple of day's. Haven't seen grass this high on a baseball field in quite a while. It indeed had an effect on the game.

    The CovCath hitting:

Nutini 4 PA and 2 hbp

Siemer 4 PA 2 runs scored and 2 hbp

Maile 4 PA 1 run scored 1 hit 1 sb and reached base via E-5or3

    Darner 4 PA 1 run scored 2 hits double triple (5) and 2 rbi's (55 & 56)

    Isler 4 PA and 2 k's

    Holocher 4 PA 1 run scored 1 hit double 1 rbi 1 walk 1 k and 1 hbp

    Lafever 3 PA 1 sac 1 k and 1 hbp

Schlagbaum 3 PA and 1 sac

    Martin 3 PA 1 walk 1 k

    CovCath pitching:

    Isler (9-0)

    82 pitches 7 complete innings 22 PA 2 hits 0 runs 0 earned runs 0 walks 12 k's

CovCath is now 27-3 and by beating Holmes, Cov Holy Cross and Beechwood earn the #1 seed in the 35th District Tournament starting on Monday May 18 @ CovCath.

CovCath next game is at #9 Lexington Catholic @ LexCath at 5:30pm Tuesday.

Nice job by Isler. Pitched a heck of a game. I was sitting by a couple of scouts and they said both he and Smith were in high 80's occasionally hitting 90. Not that it matters, but Darner had two doubles. The triple you gave him was a double with a throwing error by the right fielder to allow him to go to third. Minor detail.

  9. I know for a fact that Smith pitched in these games. Two for sure , not for sure about the third. What is the rule on pitching on a Saturday for 3 games and then on Monday. Does the High school rules allow this or is Beechwood coaches wearing this kid out?

You need to get a life. I'm sure Myerhoff will not overpitch his ace.:irked:
