  1. We were ranked 6th last year....:D. We like flying under the radar. We really are in a rebuilding year this year. In the last 2 years we have graduated 17 players. Not much experience returning this year. Well we had that last year too.... but I knew we had the talent in Bopper, Adam and Charlie, all of which will be playing college ball. Bopper was the only player ranked in the top 10 last year from GRC. I think most know we will finish better than 9th in the region.....:sssh:

I would not be surprised if GRC won the 10th... Great program.

  2. Rowan County sophomore Tyler Thacker picked the perfect time and perfect place to play the game of his life.

Thacker came off the bench to hit four of six three-pointers and score a career-high 25 points to lead the Vikings past North Laurel 64-46 in the opening game of the 95th PNC/KHSAA Boys' State Basketball Tournament on Wednesday afternoon in Rupp Arena.

  3. From Mike Fields Notebook:

My favorite moment from the region tournaments: Rowan County's Adam Wing and Ashland Blazer's Corey Gregg chatting amiably at mid-court 45 minutes after the Vikings beat Ashland 59-56 in the 16th Region finals. Two talented, physical players who had gone nose-to-nose not only in the region title game, but throughout their careers. The mutual respect was obvious.

Thanks for sharing Gold...... I think they each have general respect for each other.... Gregg and Wing are both great competitors and class acts

  4. Not at all, but two wrongs don't make a right and like you said they were trying to foul. Something should have been called. It was a viable strategy and I said I didn't have a problem with it as long as the shooter gets a chance at the free throw line. When the final horn sounded it was Rowan 59 and Ashland 56. All I'm saying is there are legal ways to stop the shot and anything outside of that the rules say free throws should be given.

I agree free throws should have been shot, but seems like most on this thread think it should have been three instead of two......that's where I differ

  5. I see your point, that was a pretty subtle "had" and it got by me. I wouldn't take back anything in my post though. I've seen rough play allowed to go a bit before a foul was called. The strategy I called out was a game ending strategy option used by the defense. The grabbing was intentional but the second foul was the fail safe, the ref might could take the position he didn't see the grab, but no way can he say he couldn't see the foul on the shooter.

So you want to ignore one foul to get to the other, simply because it give you 3 tries at the line rather than 2?

  6. I'm not saying what foul should have been called. They called neither. And he was fouled. Thacker said so. Everyone in the gym thought so. So, I suppose I agree, if he was fouled it should have been called before it was put in play and would have been 2 FT vs. 3 FT.

Regardless, would you have been appalled had they called the foul on the shot?

Would have had they let the first foul go and called the second, especially since Rowan was obviously trying to foul.

  7. I agree. And what's more is that it would have been Egan's 5th. Had Whetsel been able to make them all and it went to OT, Wing and Townsend both had 4 and Egan would have been watching.

If they made a call on the foul before the attempted shot wouldn't he be shooting 2 instead of 3, or do we just ignore that foul and fast forward to the foul that gives 3 foul shots?
