  1. I watched the two night games and came away with the impression that Southwestern, Rock, and Lincoln are as good or better than anyone I saw playing. I am not sure if people (around the state) understand how strong the top of the 12th Region is. Somerset could compete with Breathitt and Johnson Central and possibly beat both. :ylsuper:

Absolutely. Rock or Lincoln would likely have done just as well as we hope the gals from Liberty. Casey will represent the 12th very well and we are all proud of them. Good luck and we will see you playing on Saturday and maybe Saturday night!

  2. If nothing else, the stranglehold that Rockcastle County and Wayne County have had on the Region is over for this year. They combined to win the last 5 and 7 of the last 10 Region Titles:

    2008 Rockcastle County

    2007 Wayne County

    2006 Rockcastle County

    2005 Rockcastle County

    2004 Wayne County

    2003 Mercer County

    2002 Wayne County

    2001 Lincoln County

    2000 Casey County

    1999 Wayne County

And Rockcastle went to Diddle in 2004 from 13th region.

It has been a good run for a great bunch of girls and an outstanding coach and staff. How long is it till October?

  3. thought the refs forgot how to blow their whistle last 8 seconds

The ref's let them climb all over each other the last half minute but I guess I would say it was even handed. The really only questionable deal was the lengthy delay for the injury. Seems like they dragged it out so she would not miss much action. But you got to hand it to her, she is hard core.

We're heartbroken and the Lady Pat's are elated as you might imagine but I'll tell you one thing, you couldn't get that much excitement for $6 anywhere. What a battle.

  4. Wayne will match up well with Rock. I think they may well be the darkhorse. ........QUOTE]

Wayne gave Rock a good game at the season opener and went to Bowling Green two years ago. Rockcastle thumped them pretty good a few weeks ago.

But hold on, I just checked my calender, and ... it's MARCH. Anything can happen.

If Rock gets the ball moving around like they did most of the season, it could be a difficult evening for the girls from Wayne.

It was a VERY difficult night for Wayne County

  6. What are some teams that are paying the ironic price of voting for a blind draw in their district? Or, how about some victims, if you prefer?

Several, just in the 11th Region, include:

Berea (15-10) got beat by Madison Central, while Madison Southern (2-22) is in the region.

In the 44th District, Lafayette (20-9), Dunbar (21-7) and Tates Creek (17-11) are all sitting at home.

Who are some other teams having nice records but are sitting at home because of the blind draw?

Looks to me like Lafayette, Dunbar, and Tates Creek are in the 43rd.

You have to beat Lex Cath and Lex Christian to advance. What is the difference in a blind draw in this case?

It does look like the 49th must be a blind draw. Jackson Co was best in the Region and drew Clay Co first round. They aint goin on.

  7. I really like our Lincoln team, but we are struggling to score right now and that concerns me. Casey is playing well and Wayne County has re-emerged as a team to deal with. Rock is not out either. Its March Madness people anything can happen.

Anything. Mercer is in the winners bracket this year and they knocked off Southwestern last year. ANYTHING CAN HAPPEN in the 12th.

  8. I know its slim, but Casey had better show up tonight at Somerset. Remember what happened the last time they did not show up there. I would not count anyone out come region time. Southwestern was looking way ahead last year, when Mercer took them to the woodshed. Crazy things happen this time of year. Who would have thought that Casey would have beat Lincoln and not scored a point in the 4th quarter?

You called it. Casey was up by only two points in the last seconds.

Rockcastle pounded Pulaski for the third time this season.

    Rock and Casey region bound.

  9. Let's see now......

Casey scored zero points in the 4th yet beat Lincoln at Lincoln?

Rockcastle never led against South Laurel?

Wayne ends with four in a row including Jackson and Lexington Catholic?

Pulaski out-dueled Boyle with 74 points in OT?

Monticello finishes with five in a row?

Southwestern has struggled some. Think all that talent is finished?

This year the 12th could be the premier tourney.

    Get Ready!!

  10. Rockcastle got out early and held the lead all night.

Neither team was quite as sharp offensively as they can be.

    Both teams played hard.

The Rock showed again good ball movement and teamwork.

    Rockcastle contained Pittman pretty well.

Hatter got banged up late in the game but returned hobbling a bit. Hope she will be OK.

Two wonderful coaches. A great game to watch.

Looks like the 12th region will be the most competitive and exciting at tourney time.

Rockcastle, Casey, Lincoln, Southwestern and Wayne.

    Pick One!

  11. I agree with you all. Wayne county is certainly capable of winning the 12th. Southwestern is already planning on winning it. And many, like some of you, think Lincoln and Casey are better than #2 Rockcastle. The 12th should be a real exciting tourney. This year it may be the best of the 16 for excitement. Hopefully the winner can represent the 12th well at Bowling Green.

  12. Rockcastle County is 6-2, with two losses to powerful Simon Kenton and ranked Lincoln County by a combined 13 points...They've already beaten powers Wayne County and Allen County-Scottsville.

Both of Rockcastle losses were overtime games. They won convincingly at the Corbin Tourney. Let's see how they do this year at the New years tourney in Bowling Green. Last year they won that also.

  13. Pre-season rankings might be:

    1/2 Southwestern/Lincoln

    3 Rockcastle

Rockcastle could be special IF D1 prospect sophomore Sara Hammond comes into her own AND if the offense can adjust to a more balanced scoring rather than 'loading the cannon' these last few years with Sara Rowe.

This past year they had a 17pt game from soph Jackie Alexander, a 24pt district final game from fresh Angie Lawrence and the big 31pt region final from Mary Saylor.

Hammond had 18 rebounds at Diddle, the fourth highest in tourney history, as a freshman. Lots of potential. Should be interesting as they make the adjustment. Coach Noble was the 2004 kabc state coach of the year and they have a great staff.

4 Casey might be a little slow.

My sleeper to do well next year is the highly athletic Danville.

November sure seems a long way off!

  14. Real exciting game. 22 steals and all the turnovers. you really had to see it. both teams were all over each other and a large number of the turnovers were forced. man-to-man and full court press. Both team scoring on steals on in-bounds under their own goals. Rock up by 10 then OC up by 9 then back and forth the fourth quarter. Mariah Robinson and Hammond and Rowe playing with four fouls. Both Keown's fouled out. And that with the officials pretty much letting them play. Lots of quality minutes from both benches. The teams seemed similar to me in style of play.

Most stats pretty even except points off turnovers. OC cashed them in.

Seems like M Robinson and S Rowe are going to have their games no matter what you do. One key though was OC ability to contain Saylor. 31:05 minutes and scoreless after scoring 31 in the region final. They were absolutely all over her all night.

Pretty good tournament ball. Again, 'somebody had to lose'.

Rock only loses one senior but it is Sara Rowe. (pronounced 'rau', not 'row')

Looking for the Rock to do well next year in the 12th and hopefully be back.

The girls are planning on it.
