  1. If you are referring to Welch then you don't know the man, he is a standup guy and any parent would benefit having their kid mentored by him. By the way, referring to packing up and moving is why South is in the mess they are, too many parents having too many opinions ans won't just let the program evolve.

You are right, he is a good guy that will be lucky to win 6 games the next 2 seasons and that would be an improvement from his past coaching experience.

Get serious if you had a kid with some talent that has been losing his first 2 years are you willing to let him finish his career there, I thank as a parent this would be border line child abuse. Shows how much South Laurel administration thanks of the football program. Maybe when Larkey retires at Harlan you can get him for a replacement.

  2. I smelled some sour grapes from his post too. He had his chance and won two games. Now get out of the way.

Is this the same guy that posted this during the North Laurel search for a coach. I guess a 6-35 record from 1996 to 2001 @ North Laurel made him the front runner. South Laurel has took a big gambel with our kids, and showed just how much they care about football. MY HOUSE IS FOR SALE WE ARE HEADING SOUTH.:walk:

  3. Lynch from 1959 thru 1969 4 State Championships

    2 State Runner-ups

Let us never forget these great teams that no longer have a school. Their accomplishments are forever carved into KY high school football history, and may they never be forgotten.

  4. Sounds like WC goal is only to win region IMO because what will they do if they win it again next year get another ring. Good luck in 09. Can't wait for the Whitley and Bell matchup will see whose ring is more important.

Whitley County made one of the biggest turn arounds in football history, any kind of reward these kids got was well deserved. Fort Thomas Highlands plays up a class they should be playing 4A, if so history may have been changed. Congradulations Whitley on the baseball win over Bell the other night. Whitley and Bell both should be proud of their football programs, we at South Laurel are still waiting on a coach to be named.

  5. What kind of numbers is Bryant throwing up in the weight room? He is a talented young player, who could be one of the best in the state in a few years, if he continues to grow. Sometimes kids mature early and peak by their 9th or 10th grade seasons.

I watched the Bryant kid play in the 8th grade basketball state tournament at the KBA. I was very impressed with his size and how athletic he was, he looked to be about 6' and maybe 230 lbs. I saw him play football this year against South Laurel, and we could not stop him. The Bryant kid has great power running inside, and has the ability to break away.

  6. Great Season for the Hounds. One game does not make or break the season. Congratulations to the excellent group of Seniors and good luck in the future.

The Hounds will be good next year too and will be one of the teams to beat for the 13th Region crown along with South and Clay Co.

    Kudos!

  7. It's all confusing to me! Too many associations if you ask me. I think that the guy from the new Harlan County school should have won. Bringing together athletes from 3 different schools to form as a team unit is a feat in itself, but leading them to the region finals is an awesome accomplishment. After looking at the KHSAA website, HC had a much better record than Whitley. What coach wins Coach of the Year honors with a record of 10-17 and doesn't make it out of their district?

  8. As long as he doesn't play this year as an 8th grader twice then he could, but he cannot play 8th grade two years in a row, he would have to sit out this year and that isn't a good thing. This is all assuming that his birthdate isn't before August 1st.

From what I understand its left up to each school's site based council on the decision of eligibilty of their middle school athletes. Each school in the state has their own policy. The only stipulation in the KHSAA rules is that if a student is held back in the middle school then they are not allowed to participate in any high school sport wheither that maybe fresh., jv. or varsity in that hold back year. You can check KHSAA website under the most frequently asked guestions-it will clear up this guestion more than I can. The key word is after if a student is promoted to the 9th grade then you can't hold him back, but if he is not promoted onto high school then he would be eligible based on the school's site based policy. Also, as long as the kid does not turn 19 before August 1 of his senior year he will not loose eligibility his senior year.
