  1. I know the KHSAA has live scoring updates on their site but other than that I do not know. I want the west to at least represent so all these bluebird fans can give a little respect for what goes on in this side of the state.

    I pick Highlands 35 CC 14

CC gives up the big play too often so it might get worse. If they can control that this game might be a little closer but I still say Highlands Catholic wins!

Just kidding about the HC comment!

  2. I think it will be the usual suspects in the west BG, JH, Owensboro and Christian Co. until someone beats these guys. Christian Co. if true that they did not lose much may be the team to beat early. They have to come to the dungeon to play Owensboro this year in the district game and that is never an easy task.

Did not get a chance to see JH last year but have in the past and they are usually pretty good year end and year out. I look for it to be the 4 team mentioned as Hoptown still has some work to do to be in the conversation.

I look for Owensboro to be better than people think they will be although they lost 23 seniors that played a very big part in getting the devils back to the front of 5A the boys coming up are no slouches and the JV and Freshman teams at Owensboro have not given many points in the last few years. I look for them to be very explosive and fast like the Owensboro of old but may be a year away from being a true contender.

I am going to call it Christian Co and BG for now and when the season starts it may change. One thing I do know is the kicking game in the west of 5A will be fun to watch this year with Max Oldham from BG going after some state records in his senior year and the sophmore kid Trey Cain from Owensboro to see if he can back up what he did last year as a freshman. These 2 are probably the best kickers in the state next to the Merrick kid from Bell Co. who is one step above these 2 right now.

Westsider with some interest in OHS I called CC way back in May as the favorite and I also said that OHS would not be as bad as people thought they would be. I pretty much called Region 1 with the exception of OHS knocking off BG. So can I have a pat on the back as well?:thumb:

I hate to do this to the Colonels but I do not see them beating a very good Highlands team. I think they may be able to keep it close for a while but I look for Highlands to pull this off by a couple of TDs.

But I would not be surprised if CC pulled off a shocker they do have some pretty good talent and a lot of heart and it is 1 game not a series so anything can happen.

  3. CC has speed and size. Their QB can scramble when a play breaks down and that is where they killed OHS this year. The QB was faster than the linemen chasing him so he would make big gainers when most teams would have been sacked. They change up their Defense so much they are hard to figure out. I have seen them twice this year and well the first time I thought we were the better team and the 2nd time they came out and showed us who was boss.

They tend to give up the big play generally but they have really improved in every facet of the game as the year has progressed. The RB is quick and will have some big boys to follow so he could realy be the key for the colonels.

Vashaun Banks is his name and he is only a junior he put up some big yards last year against Owensboro in the playoffs as a sophmore and Owensboro had the best run Defense around last year. Owensboro literally knocked him out of the game last year as in lights out on a hit on a screen pass or he may have had a huge night that night.

I think CC can give the Birds some trouble but I feel that they are still a 2 TD underdog. But if Highlands has some turnovers like earlier this game could get interesting.

Highlands has the advantage on Special teams for sure with Collinsworth and whoever the kicker is. CC's kicker is just a sophmore and is in his first year of playing football. The kid does a nice job but the big stage may give him some jitters.

In closing this game has the making of one of those normal Highlands blowouts but if CC comes to play I can see them making a game of it they sure have a lot of heart and no quit to them and with that they can make things happen as they already have this year.

    Good Luck to both teams!

  4. I would think that RB Vashun Banks of Christian County would qualify. I'm not a Christian County backer so I don't have his stats, but the kid has put up some big numbers over the past two seasons and should have a banner year as a senior.

hooaah I would agree with you on that Banks will definately be a bright spot for Christian Co. next year. I do not know what CC has coming back as in linemen so he may have to create more next year.

  5. Highlands took out what might have been their toughest opponent going into the semis.

Can't look past Whitley County of course but the only team I could see giving them fits from here on out is Owensboro but the birds have to win this game before they get to that one.

I'll take Highlands in this one.

    HHS 42

    Whitley 14

Owensboro decided to take the holiday off so now they will have to wait until next year so it will be John Hardin or Christian Co in the finals.

  6. This has got to be the worst offensive game I have seen out of the Devils all year. It looked like CC knew every play call that OHS tried on them. Hats off to CC totally dominant tonight.

OHS did not do many of the things that were successful against BG I felt maybe we should have put Shemwell under center early to get him going. CC was keying on him and early the game was sloppy both ways many turnovers like nobody wanted the ball. OHS defense held the 2nd half and kept CC scoreless but the offense wasn't there all night long.

Well I feel for our seniors they are going to be missed. You guys had a wonderful career. One plus is we return several starters and I am sure they will be working hard in the off-season and be back and ready to make a go of it again next year. You guys have nothing to hang your heads about this year accomplished many things just fell a little short of where you wanted.

Good Luck to all the teams left!:fire:

  7. I expect a physical and very close contest with JC. I was just asking for some info on what is shaping up on the other side of the brackets. Did I touch a nerve or what?

Highlands has a very good team this year. As good as last year's? That debate is still in progress. Anything can happen when you get to the finals... anything! Stay Fresh! :thumb:

No you are not realizing that after you beat Doss if you do you play the winner of Owensboro and Christian Co. before you can think about the Pizza Box. Neither of those 2 teams are going to be easy they are both 11-1 going into Friday night. CC lost to Male by about 30 and Owensboro lost to CC by 8 after blowing a 20 point lead with 7 minutes to play. That is all I am saying this is not the semi-finals Friday night.

  8. Coach Prince will not let this slip away. I think he learned something that he will always remember the last time these two got together. Play to win not to lose. GO DEVILS :fire:

You can say that again! I think that is how they will look at this game when they have their cleat on their throats go ahead and put pressure down and not let up.

  9. I heard all along that JH will be the team to represent the West at the Pizza Box in December... I am suprised they were beat by Doss for the District Championships.

Will either team have the firepower to get by Bowling Green and on to the State Finals?

I was about to say Bowling Green is not the team you have to worry about anymore. I would just worry about Friday night first and see who you play if you win. The other 2 teams on the other side of the bracket are no slouches.

If Owensboro wins Friday night they will not be an easy out they beat BG last week and will try to get revenge on a game they had well in hand and went to the locker room 7 minutes early that night.

Christian Co is big across the line and can play with anybody as well. I think there are still a few teams that can play with Highlands left and maybe even pull off the upset if the stars are aligned right that night.

  10. Well I haven't voted yet but I think it is always hard to beat a team twice and twice in less than a month is even harder. FC has a really good team but if a team's gameplan wipes out all of your strengths which OC may be able to do then this game may be closer than expected.

OC played with OHS erlier in the year and OHS has been playing good football for most of the year minus a little 7 minute stretch in one game against CC.

    OC can hang in there.....

    Will they? Probably not

    Can they? Most certainly

If FC comes in a little flat having beat the tar out of the Aces not long ago they may be in for a game. OC is young but quick in spots and well their coaching staff has been here before which makes me think they will have a pretty good game plan for this game. I may be wrong altogether but I tend to think this might be closer than people think.

  11. From what I have seen this year, his mom will not have to be carried out. Coach Prince IMO know what he has with ole #3 and has no concerns about using him in a vital situation. He knows this time of the year your playmakers can do exactly that. He looked very comfortable last week on the 40+ yarder:thumb:

Is the 94.7 crew going to be covering the game Friday night? I hope so! I also heard that CC's fullback got hurt last week and will not be available. If this is correct that will hurt them on both sides of the ball. He is a big fast kid! Hopefully the Boys will not eat too much on Thursday and be ready to take care of business Friday night.

Should be a good game and hopefully a dry one at that!

  12. According to my wife, BBQ IS a determining factor, so go Falcons! The other Falcons that is…

Thomkinsville has some really good BarBQ and this comes from someone in Owensboro with Moonlite. There is a place down there that used to only be open a few days a week I think the name is Francis's or something like that but man was that stuff good. I never could figure out why is was only open a few days a week!

  13. Looking at the game stats from last week I would have to agree that HHS has the advantage in special teams. If look earlier JC missed 2 of 5 XP in the 5 big plays listed earlier. If you have a kicker that is not hitting XP you are already down 7-6 every score.

I have seen Highlands play earlier this year against Hoptown and well Hoptown put 21 points on them even though the game was in hand they still scored 21 points. Hoptown has some speed though and equal speed at some positions and if JC is not as fast as Hoptown somewhere this may be one of those HHS typical blowouts. There are a couple of teams in the west with as much or more speed than Hoptown but I do not know of many as hoptown is a pretty fast team. There is a website that has the HHS/Hoptown game online if any JC fans want to see what they are in for and well for that matter the website also has one of those other west teams that is pretty fast as well on there too along with a BG/Henderson game they do a good job of covering the games. If I can put the link on here I will add it below if not can a mod remove it.

    http://www.wazoosports.com

    HHS vs Hoptown

    Owensboro vs Meade Co

    BG vs Henderson Co

    Lex Cath vs St X

    Ft Campbell vs Fort Knox

Just to name a few of the game with teams still playing.

I am going to say since JC has homefield that gives them a 7 point advantage so I will say the score will be 35-7 Highlands. They are fast and disciplined so JC will have to play a perfect game and get a few breaks depending on the weather. If it is raining and a little sloppy in the mountains which will slow HHS down some and the ball gets slick then I would say all bet are off because in poor conditions anything can and usually does happen.

  14. Great game by both teams Yorel Shemwell is absolutely awesome. He rushed for 238 yards and returned to the game after having his helmet ripped off and being punched in the face at the bottom of the pile. Had to have his eye butterflied because it got cut open and was bleeding. He is one tough kid!!

Also props to OHS sophmore kicker Trey Cain he hit a 36 and 43 yarder to get the Devils going tonight and also Khirey Maddox this is 2 games in a row he has come up with a huge game saving play with that int he returned about 80 yards to seal the victory tonight.

BG has nothing to hang their heads about they have a very good program and are true winners even though the score didn't show it tonight.
