SSC
Pretty cool today for the UK softball team. They started 5 girls from the state of KY in a 3-2 win over Pacific. Rachel Riley (Bowling Green) was the starting pitcher and hit a 2 run homer also knocking in Emily Jolly (Owensboro) who reached on an error. Freshman Griffin Joiner (Hopkinsville) got her first career hit and it was the homer to put the Cats up 3-2. The only other hit UK had today came from Sophmore Emily Gaines (London) which was also her first hit in her career. I believe Gaines and Joiner were Ms Softball in the state the last 2 years. FarBeyondDriven
Also saw that UL defeated Michigan St 4-1 with the help of Sophmore Tanner Fowler (Union County) 2-run HR. Fowler, Joiner, and Jolly were teamates on Don Dobina's Louisville Lady Sluggers.

We played in the Scenic City last season, loved it. Chattanooga has the nicest parks we have played at. Not bad that they had a ton of D1 coaches there either. They were practically stepping over one another in St.Louis in October. Very intresting atmosphere. When I tell folks about these tournaments and the atmosphere with the many college coaches hanging around, most folks look at me like I'm pulling their leg. One of our pitchers who ended up verbaling to Georgia as a Soph had not committed yet and I think all schools new it was going to be the last chance to see her before she did. Funny how if you throw 68mph how many coaches come and watch you!! All most all D1 schools and most D2 schools only hit up a select few tourneys in the summer were they know most of the good players are going to be. They only have something like 6 weeks to be out bc of the dead periods (in the summer) and can't have more than 2 coaches out at a time so they have to select their tourneys they attend carefully. If you are not attending a major tourney there is a very good chance you won't see many if any D1 coaches.
