Cards survive North Laurel

The 62-58 setback at Rowan County last Tuesday snapped the Cards’ 17-game winning streak, but Clark overcame a late arrival in London and got back on track on the road.

The Cardinals (20-3) survived five lead chances in the fourth quarter and a 3-pointer by Bopper Stenzel with less than a minute remaining gave the Cards a 48-46 advantage. Malachi Israel and Stenzel combined and made three of four free throws in the final eight seconds remaining for the final margin.

” Clark coach Scott Humphrey said. “Games like this only make you tougher. With the two environments that we went — we’ve been tested. One time the ball bounced our way and the other night it didn’t. We got better this week. This team is going to be fine and with their mental toughness, we’ll be ready to roll once we get into postseason, because all of it and our schedule prepares us the rest of the way.

Stenzel led the Cardinals with 22 points, followed by Adam Fatkin with 14 and Charlie Rogers added 11. Stenzel scored 15 of those in the opening half.
