Tough loss for GRC. MC's final two drives were exteremly well executed with only one timeout called. Congratulations to them.

GRC played a great game and the defense did so well tonight. We held them scoreless for 3 quarters. Mays, Vancleve, Hisle to name a few on the defensive team that all made some huge plays.

Believe this means Boone County will be playing Madison Central in round 1 in Richmond.

District title slips away from Cardinals

RICHMOND — George Rogers Clark let one slip away in its district finale Friday night.

Madison Central scored two touchdowns in the final seven minutes and claimed its first district championship since 2005 with a 15-13 triumph over the Cardinals. The Indians (5-4) clinched the top seed in the district and will host a playoff game, while Clark (3-6) settles for third behind Lafayette and will open the postseason on the road.

Clark defeated Central in the two previous meetings between the two border rivals and led 13-0 late in the fourth quarter this time before the Indians staged a comeback that wiped away an impressive defensive effort by Clark during the first three quarters. Daniel Foster’s 15-yard touchdown with 28 seconds remaining sealed the deal for the hosts.

“It was very disappointing,” Columbia said. “The guys played hard and we had a shot at No. 1 in the district if we would have won, but unfortunately it got away from us.”

Columbia added that the Indians were “capable” of mounting a comeback, but said his team failed to “execute” when it counted.

 

Clark limited the Indians to just 257 total yards, but couldn’t hold on down the stretch.

“The defense did a great job, except during those last two drives at the end,” Columbia said. “We just needed one more stop and we didn’t get it.”
