Covington Catholic defeats Lexington Christian 10-1

More to follow later

Nice win. LCA is pretty good. Probably rated as high if not higher than CCH in the state, aren't they?

No Covington Catholic I would think is rated considerably higher than LCA. LCA record is below .500 even though they did have a nice win over Catholic. This is not the same LCA team that the state has come accustomed to over the past 6 or 7 years.

OK. Thanks. I know they have been very good over the past few years and early in the year they were right around the edge of the top 20-25 in the state. But I hadn't seen how they were doing as the season has moved on.

They were in the pre-season top 25 and then stayed a couple of weeks in the top 25 even though there record was like 2-9. I believe their ranking was more because of name tradition than performance. They are just another example of why the baseball top 25 is not up to par with the other sports. Though I do think the baseball poll has come a long way in the past couple of years and the voters around the state are getting it more accurate than they ever have.

Been a long weekend away from home so this and the next game summary will be quick.

!st inning and Maile is on the hump. Ben walks the first batter of LCA and the second batter also. Two on no outs, the third batters sac the runner to 2nd and 3rd with one out. Maile then walks his third batter of the morning and the bases are loaded and only one out. Maile on the first pitch gets the number 5 LCA player to hit a one hopper to Rolf at third who goes home to Robinson at the plate to force out the runner for out number 1 and then Robinson throws a rope to Schneider at 1st for a 5-2-3 DP that drives a stake through the hearts of the LAC.

CovCath then goes on to score 5 runs in the first and never looks back.

After a good nights sleep at home, Theoldguy is still tired but their is work to do and thus.....

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly plus, PeeWee's Place Star of the game, Grubers Grill Defensive Star and BAWAC Inc. Offensive Star of the game, stats and more.

First things first: Theoldguy wants to thank Mr and Mrs Shumate but just saying thank you clearly isn't enough for the kindness you have shown me. :notworthy:

The Good: Maile had problems in the 1st inning but he and the team didn't panic and with a solid play by Rolf and Robinson, were able to get out of the inning without giving up a run.

The Bad: Maile 1st and 5th innings. Although the young man didn't give up a run in either inning, he lost his chance to get a complete game victory by throwing so many pitches especially in the 5th.

The Ugly: The team looked half asleep in the pregame warm-ups prior to the start of the game but after a kind and gentle word from Coach Krumps :D they seemed to wake up.

Grubers Grill Defensive Star of the game: This was the easiest play of the season to make! Rolf to Robinson to Schneider for a 5-2-3 double play to end the first inning, without giving up a run after Maile walks the bases loaded.

BAWAC Inc. Offensive Star of the game: Jack "Attack" Grosser who drove in three runs while scoring two on a single and a FC bunt attempt that the runner was safe at the plate.

PeeWee's Place Star of the game: Matt Rolf and Joe Robinson who without making the play that they did, this game might have ended differently.
