Whitley gets the district win over South Laurel on the road. The Colonels were leading by 19 with just over a minute left in the game. South had one lead in the game at 4-0 then the Colonels got going offensively. South made several runs at the Colonels but they withstood everyone.

Is South in a rebuilding year?

They are not the Ty Proffitt/Matt St. John SL Cardinals but they are still a very good team. I don't know if I would call it rebuilding or not. Probably a lot like GRC will be when Zollo and Co. graduate.

Yes

Does Whitley play a lot of full court pressure D and a lot of run and gun offense or do they slow it down quite a bit? I couldn't get a read on it with the score.

Whitley will run if they get the chance and last night they did turning South over several times and getting easy buckets out of it. They play tough half court defense and can press but mainly sit back and play half court defense.

 

Although the final score was a 10 point margin, Whitley was leading by 19 with 1:51 to go in the game. South made a couple of threes late and had an "and one" situation which they converted. Goins (#3) off the bench gave the Colonels a lift and Akins (#12) did a good job with some big buckets at key times. Harris (#14) was steady throughout the game and South had no answer for him, all in all a good win for the Colones giving themselves a step up in the district.
