Bardstown 13 Bethlehem 6

Final.

Tough yardage by Jack Whitfield in the fourth quarter. He carried it eight times for 33 yards, which on the surface isn't eye-popping. However, four of them were for first downs, keeping the clock moving. He finished with 75 yards on 13 carries and his first-quarter TD gave the Tigers a 7-0 lead they would never surrender.

Bethlehem got it back on a fumble at the 2:23 mark of the fourth quarter after Whitfield had to check out because of a bloody jersey, but had little left in the tank and a full field to navigate against a confident Bardstown defense that was incredibly stingy in the second half. Dee Yocum batted down a fourth and 4 pass to finish it.

Anthony Myrks had a big game, with a 68-yard TD catch and run early in the fourth quarter to put the Tigers up 13-6, and he also prevented an Eagle first-half score with a fantastic leaping interception at the goal line.

Both of these teams have a lot of work to do. This game was a pillow fight. Both teams had many examples of poor tackling and poor blocking. All that said, this was a big win for Bardstown and the Tiger staff. Myrks was POG. He not only had the first half INT and 2nd half TD, but he also threw the outside block on the Tigers score on the opening drive. Good job Anthony.

While I know the Eagles run the run and shoot, they have several big interior lineman but insisted on both running and throwing side to side rather than running right over the Tiger defense.

Tigers have two weeks to prepare for Glasgow, and will need every single minute of it.

Another thing on Myrks' play, his end-around run for about 20 yards set the Tigers up with the 1st and goal that led to Whitfield's first-half TD.
