GCHS_09 or anyone else what can you tell us about the new home for the Golden Lions. Any Pictures?

I'll do the best I can here:

 

The new Garrard County High School is set to open in August. It will be located on KY-39 on the south end of Lancaster (if anyone knows where the Owsley House Historic Site is located, Hwy-39 is almost directly across U.S. 27 from that house). The school/facilities are being built in phases. The first phase was basically the physical plant, greenhouses for agriculture, a physical education gymnasium, and a field house for weight lifting. There are plans for outdoor practice fields to be completed by the fall as well, although I'm not sure about the progress of those fields as of right now. The later phases are to include a regulation gymnasium to host girls and boys basketball games (and district/regional tournaments if necessary) and all outdoor sports facilities.

 

Ultimately the best description of the school right now is that it is student-ready but not athlete-ready. The basketball teams will continue to play at the current gym for the near future. The football, soccer, baseball, and softball teams will continue to play at their current locations as well. I would expect that the first facilities to be open at the new school will be basketball and football/soccer. I don't know yet if the football field will be turf or grass. I suspect that baseball and softball will be the last fields built. In my opinion, it will probably be 4-7 years before all facilities are completed - much to the chagrin of most in Garrard County.
