In a game that saw CovCath get down one to nothing after one inning then three to nothing after two innings, the never say die Colonels came back to tie the score 3-3 in their top of the fourth. CovCath then took the lead in their half of the fifth 4-3, but the Mustangs scored two runs in their half of the fifth to take a 5-4 lead. CovCath then exploded with some help from some shoddy "D" from BB to score 9 runs in the top of the seventh to take a 13-5 lead and then sent the Mustangs down one, two, three to win and end the game!

The Good: The Colonels never quit today. They fought and fought to take home this victory. Adam Warning wasn't as sharp today as he as been, but he only allowed BB to get five hits abit two were HR's. Matt Klein had two big hits in the seventh and drove in three runs. Logan Siemer batting from the number nine spot had a walk, single K and single

The Bad: You could certainly tell the Colonels hadn't played since last Friday as CovCath didn't play as well as they have in the field.

The Ugly: The first three innings and taking some ugly swings at pitches that IMO were balls!

Pee Wee's Place Offensive play of the game: Top of the 5th and the score is tied 3-3. Siemer earns himself a base hit. Man on 1st, no outs. Reese lays down a great sac bunt and moves Siemer to 2nd. One out man on second. Warning then goes 4-3 and Siemer moves to third. Two outs man on 3rd. Klein on a 1-2 count after fouling off two pitches hits a single to drive in Siemer for the Colonels to take a 4-3 short lived lead!

BAWAC Inc. Defensive play of the game: Not really any plays for either team that stood out tonight.

Grubers Grill stars of the game: Adam Shumate comes in and closes out BB in the sixth and seventh innings to earn the win and earns his first hit and rbi of the season. I have also got to give credit to Adam Warning, Matt Klein, Chris Gerwe, Neil Martin, Brett Stayton, Logan Siemer, Brennan Schlagbaum and David Brueggman CovCath seniors for not allowing their team to quit today. Great job gentlemen!

CovCath pitching:

Adam Warning 83 pitches 5 innings PA 25 4 hits 5 runs 4 earned runs 2 walks 3 K's and 2 HR's

Adam Shumate (W) 20 pitches 2 innings 6 PA 0 runs and 1 K's

BTW, if you haven't seen a game at St. Mary's the outfield dimensions are as follows: 337 left field line, 324 left field power alley, 330 dead center field, 331 right field power alley and 330 down the right field line! The first HR would have been a double at most HS fields but the second HR was a line drive shot, by young Mr. Norton!

How did Norton hit?

If you are talking about the Frosh catcher TA Norton:

4 PA 1 run scored 1 hit (HR 330) 2 rbi's and reached base via E-3.

The outs were U-8 and 5-3 to end the game! The HR was a line shot right over the 330 mark sign on the right field fence that hit the score board. As a hitter he is good very good but as a catcher, he needs to work on his foot work as he reaches far too often for outside pitches but being a frosh he has plenty of time to learn....

CovCath hitting:

Reese 5 PA 2 runs scored 2 hits 1 walk 1 K and 1 sac bunt

Warning 5 PA 2 runs scored 1 walk 1 sac bunt 1 sb and reached base via E-3

Klein 5 PA 3 hits (dobule) 4 rbi's 1 walk and 1 fc

Nienaber CR 1st

Nienaber CR 4th 1 run scored

Nienaber CR 5th

Stayton 4 PA 2 runs scored 1 hit 1 rbi and 1 fc

Lankheit 4 PA 1 run scored 2 hits 1 rbi and 1 walk

Nienaber PR 6th

Gerwe 4 PA 1 run 1 rbi and 2 walks

Martin 4 PA 1 run 1 hit and 1 K

Severson 3 PA and 1 walk

Shumate 1 PA 1 hit and 1 rbi

Hoffer CR 7th 1 run scored

Siemer 4 PA 2 runs scored 2 hits 1 walk 1 cs and 1 k

Note: In order to post the above stats now, I might have made a mistake or two on rbi's. BB threw the ball around a lot allowing CovCath to score a few runs in the seventh and it is going to take me a bit to recreate the scoring to get it correct!

CovCath improves their record to 22-12 and next plays Ft. Thomas Highlands @ CovCath on Thursday May 20th at 5pm.

Note: In my post number three I had a typo. Adam gave up only 4 hits today.

Old guy: Who is the "high school standout baseball player" referred to in this article - http://communitypress.cincinnati.com/article/AB/20100518/NEWS010704/305180027/Jeni-Dinkel-s-son-sues-Covington-Catholic?

It has nothing to do with this game and more so, nothing to do with these players on the current CovCath team. You could have PM me to ask but you chose not to but I would have told you the same thing as Clyde did.
