Covington Catholic 7 Covington Holmes 1

In one of the strangest games that I have witness in my life,

the box score for Cov Holmes through four innings read:

1 runs

6 hits

3 errors

12 LOB

1 earned run

Never in my life, have I seen a team leave the bases loaded four straight innings.

The Good: Mattie Klein comes in to relieve Adam "the 100 pitch count man" Warning with two on and no outs in the bottom of the fifth and strikes out the first batter and gets second to end the inning on a strange DP. Adam and Mattie strike out 11 of the 21 Holmes player they faced.

The Bad: Too many walks by Adam Warning today. It didn't hurt him today but...

The UGLY: Three errors...

Pee Wee's Place Offensive play of the game:

Top of the second score is 1-0 CovCath: Stayton leads off with a single, man on first, no outs. Martin lays down a sac bunt, one out, man on second. Severson hits a shot to the left center for a triple and scores Stayton, for the second CovCath run of the game, still only one out. Schlagbaum then puts down a great squeeze bunt that scores Severson and earns Slag a hit on the play as he easily beat the throw but the third baseman makes a poor throw anyway and goes all the way to third. Two runs in, man on third and still only one out. Reese then puts down a another squeeze bunt and while the runner is safe at home for the third run of the inning, no body is covering first base. Siemer gets a hit, but then Warning hits into a DP to end the inning.

The BAWAC Inc. Defensive play of the game: One play comes to mind: Bottom of the third and the first Holmes batter gets a single, man on first no outs. The next batter is left hander and he hits a ball that could have been a Texas League hit just to the fair ball side of the left field line. Now if you have been to Holmes Baseball field you know how much of a drop off it is just beyond third base but the CovCath SS Seattle Stein races to the ball and catches what I though was going to be a clean hit.

Grubers Grill star of the game: Senior Matt Klein who comes in to shut down any chance that Cov Holmes had. Mattie looked like the pitcher he was in his Sophomore year. Great job Matt.

I find it fitting that PeeWee's Place is sponsoring the "offensive" play of the game. Just having fun with PW!!!!

Thanks for the post TOG.

Been a long day and it started at 5am today, so I am hitting the bed!

Reese then puts down a another squeeze bunt and while the runner is safe at home for the third run of the inning, no body is covering first base. .

So what did the player that fielded the bunt do? Just hold it? Throw to home?

He had no play, nor a chance to get the runner coming home, and no one was at first. So yes, he just held onto the ball! What else was he to do with it?

Quite frankly, even if there were a fielder covering first (IMO), I don't think he could have thrown Reese out, it was a very, very good bunt!

That's what we call "no man's land."

Note: As per the SK game I missed a posting a Walk to Siemer in the 5th inning. That is how he got on base to score his run.
