Brossart Wins Two In Pete Noll Tourney

Featured Replies

:ylsuper: Top ranked Bishop Brossart stayed hot beating their first two opponents in the Pete Noll Classic at Pendery Park Friday night. The Lady ‘Stangs topped Notre Dame Academy 17-1 in three innings and then came from behind to also smoke Louisville Presentation Academy 10-2. They will now play a tough North Oldham club at 1:30 Saturday.

The Lady ‘Stangs enter Saturday’s play 11-1.

In the other tourney game played Friday, Perkins (Sandusky, Ohio) shutout Simon Kenton 5-0.

In the Notre Dame game Brossart only batted twice scoring 7 in the first and then 10 in the second after Notre Dame scored in the first to take a 1-0 lead. Molly Williams and Alicia Miller tied a school record by each having two hits in the same inning. Williams wound up going 3 for 3 and driving home 4 runs. Miller ended up 3 for 3. Both had doubles. Emily Schubert was 2 for 3. Overlal the Lady ‘Stangs banged out 13 hits. Miller combined with Erin Franke on the two hitter.

The second game saw Brossart taking on Louisville Presentation Academy. The two teams hadn’t played since the old slow pitch days in 1997 in the Midwest Catholic Challenge. Brossart won that one.

Presentation came out swinging and jumped out to a 2-0 lead on two hits, a bunt and a disputed call at the plate.

In the bottom of the first, with the first two Lady ‘Stangs retired on comebackers to the pitcher, the “Big Green Machine” started coming back. Griffith singled hard and stole second base. Bezold drilled a hit to make it 2-1 and Williams sent fear into the rightcenterfield fence with a cannon shot to rightcenter scoring Bezold to tie it. Moments later Miller drilled a double by hustling and beating the throw with a good slide at second to give her team a 3-2 lead. They never trailed again.

The Lady ‘Stangs defense was stingy not allowing a hit after inning one. Emily Schubert made three outstanding plays from deep short, Krista Kennedy made a play at third that got even applause from Brooks Robinson, Paige Baynum made a nice charging catch in center, and Lindsay Griffith gunned down Mary Gallegos in her attempt to steal second.

Brossart had a textbook third. Schubert drew a nice walk and Griffith bunted her to second. She advanced to third on a wild pitch and then Bezold laid down a perfect bunt and Griffith scored on the throw to first.

In the fourth, with one out, Kennedy reached on an error by the secondbaseman and then in one of the big hits of the night, Carmen Enzweiler faked the bunt and slapped a hard shot to right sending Kennedy to third. That opened the flood gates Woeste drilled one to center to score a run, Baynum almost decapitated the thirdbaseman with a line shot to left to knock in two more and then Griffith and Bezold added rbis to give them a 9-2 lead. They added one more in the sixth on a Schubert walk and hard base hit by Griffith to make it 10-2 before the time limit ended the game.

:cool:Bishop scored 12 in the first and 5 in the second inning. All the runs came after the first two batters of the inning were retired. In fact, all 17 runs were with 2 outs and unearned if NDA could catch anything that resembled an infield or routine fly, much less a ground ball in the left side of the IF. Saw the whole game while waiting for Simon Kenton and Perkins. Bishop is good, but your facts need to get better.

Saw the same thing with Bishop, if there player gets on base it is a hit and if there defense has a tough play they give them an error so there pitcher's stats look better. They are having a great season there record speaks for it self.
