Final

Owen controlled the tempo early and led 18-16 late in the second quarter, before Shelby scored 7 straight for a 23-18 halftime advantage.

 

Owen scored just four in the third, and Shelby was up, 33-22 after three.

 

Owen opted to try to continue to control the tempo in the final period, and Shelby held the ball nearly 1 1/2 minutes before Owen got the ball. With Owen in a sagging man, the Rockets continued to run clock on every possession, and the Rebels simply ran out of time. When Owen finally came out of the sagging man and put pressure on the ball, Shelby's tremendous athletes drove and drew the fouls and hit the FTs. (or enough of them to win. Shelby hit 59% at the line)

 

Rockets against the South Oldham Dragons Tuesday night at 7 pm.

 

"Rematch" from South's only other 8th region final appearance in 1990, the school's first year, when South finished 21-10 under Randy Penner after losing to Shelby County in the 8th region final.
