Marion County 60 Nelson County 57

Kind of surprised at this score …

The top-ranked team in the state got off to a fast start, 18-3, against the visiting Cardinals, but Nelson Co. battled back and, from what I was told, had a good look at a late three that could have sent it to OT.

I don't have any additional details as I couldn't make it to this one. But Nelson Co. has been playing a lot better lately — Miss Basketball candidate Samantha Drake was beat down earlier in the season by injuries and illnesses, but is at full-strength now — and with the right draw can be a dangerous dark horse candidate in an always-tough 5th Region tourney.

The Cardinals suffered a four-point loss to E'town, and three-point losses to North Hardin and Marion County. They'll have to go through at least one of the aforementioned teams to get to the region final, and perhaps two, so it won't be easy. Plus, the 5th Region tourney is at Hart Co., which makes the Raiders a dangerous opponent as well. Still, the Cardinals have played many of the top teams in the state, so they've seen just about everything by this point.

The 5th Region tourney figures to be outstanding as usual.

Wow that score is a suprize, I wonder if Marion County was at full strength? The 5th is one of the top regions in the state. Should be a very good tournment, if Marion Co. doesn't dominate. Good to see Nelson Co played with them. Green County is also a dangerous team. My team Adair Co could upset someone, if they make the regional.
