Kickoff Rules Questions

Crittendon kicked every kickoff/punt out of bounds it seemed. Mayfield takes ball at 35 yd line...is there another option?

 

In KY, do teams have the option to take ball on 35 yd line or decline and have team rekick from 5 yards back?

 

No one wants to kick to Shelton for Mayfield and I know in some states it is an option? I assume the Mayfield coaches know the rules, but just wondering!

Free Kick Out of Bounds options:

 

5 yard penalty and kick again

or 35 yard line (of course, if kick happened from the 40)

or take it at spot of kick out of bounds

I should clarify.....punt (scrimmage kick) does not afford these options.

So if it is a regular kickoff then they have 3 options...someone needs to mention this to Coach Joe!

A few years ago, my team had opposing teams do that on KO's (we had a very good kick returner). And like your coach, ours always took the ball at the 35.

 

I'm with you. I don't know why coaches that have a good returner don't force re-kicks.

I think shelton has like 15 big returns and like 6 tds...guess they don't think its that important
