HIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. – The Mercy Academy Jaguars made quick work of Marshall County in the opening match of the quarterfinals of the Kentucky High School Athletic Association State Volleyball Tournament Saturday morning 25-4, 25-4.

 

Mercy (30-6), the champions of Region 6, collected 16 service aces in the two-set match as the Lady Marshals had trouble on the back row all morning. The Jaguars have an astounding 34 aces so far in the tournament. Paige Stewart collected a team-leading five aces.

 

Marshall County (23-13), the champions of Region 1, was held to a -.111 hitting percentage as they collected just six kills in 36 attempts while having 10 errors. Mercy hit at a .409 clip by collecting 21 kills.

 

Madison Hardy led the way for Mercy with seven kills and three aces. Amanda Crask helped pace the Jaguar attack by dishing out 14 assists while Caitlin Welch led in the dig category with four.

 

Leigh Toby led the way for the Lady Marshals with five kills for a .200 hitting percentage. Lena Bohannon added the lonely other kill for Marshall County.

 

Marcy advances to the semifinals where they will take on the winner of the Notre Dame Academy/Paul Laurence Dunbar match. That semifinal will begin at approximately 2 p.m.
