Tigers do just enough to avoid the upset.

WC did a great job keeping Ricky Harper from beating them in the running game, but other people stepped up.

Bardstown got a 1 yard TD run by Harper in the 2nd Q, set up by Codi Cramer's fumble recovery (Cramer also blocked a punt in the 2nd H).

WC tied it up, but I can't recall how, in the 2nd Q (Hearsay should be able to help here), but B'town answered with a scoring drive just before halftime to go in with a 14-7 lead. Quintez Cissell caught a 20 yard TD from the sophomore Butler, playing in relief of injured Keaton Hall.

The Tigers scored on their first drive of the second quarter, not a minute in, on a long TD run by Jack Whitfield (another soph), to take a 21-7 lead.

Quan Turner got a long TD run to cut it to 21-14, and it appeared he may have tied it just before the 3rd Q ended, but it was called back -- didn't catch why.

Tigers added a 4th Q FG to ice it and essentially sew up the top seed in the district. They visit Ft. Knox next week.

Harper was slowed in the running game, but he had a good game defensively, picking off two passes, giving him three in the past two games. He just missed out on a second one in the Danville game.

A win is a win is a win. This is how the sausage is made. Tigers were flat, coming off the Danville win, coming off Fall Break, it was Homecoming, it was raining and cold, and their quarterback was out and best receiver in limited action. Washington County was fired up, energized, and had nothing to lose, they played well.

Butler played pretty well in pinch-hit duty for a sophmore in his first ever start. A few nice passes, decent game management, some good quick decisions on plays going nowhere. I think he is going to be a good ballplayer, and the younger classes in general for Bardstown with Jack Whitfield, Butler, Josh Koontz, and freshmen Marcus Cosby (unbelievable catch to seal the game in the 4th quarter) are going to be good. We need some more good lineman.

If Harper decides he wants to run the ball with authority, we get Willett back, and the line wakes up from their nap, we might be a decent playoff team.

Hearsay, I think I've envisioned Harper's future at the next level -- I think he'd make an excellent strong safety or even free safety, and somebody who can help out on kick and punt returns.

He'll have a good bounce-back game on offense next week. I credit WC for making Bardstown beat them in other ways.
