My Prediction for Boys State Title individual is Justin Thomas of St. X.

 

Team State Title will be St. X and LCA dualing for Title. What second tier teams can challenge these two seasoned elite teams?

Pendleton County has a pretty good team with 3 of the top 5 finishers in Region 8 coming off their squad. That 4th score will be vital for them.

My Prediction for Boys State Title individual is Justin Thomas of St. X.

The Greenup County boys have beat both of these teams in tournaments this years; they also carded a school record 285 at Eagle Trace 2 weeks ago. They are lead by state points leader Dagon Abdon; he has only shot 2 over par rounds in tournament play this year. They are very capable. But I would think Justin would have to be the overall boys favorite due to his big tournament experience.

The top 3 finishers from last year's state tournament are returning -- David Payne (StX), Travis Thompson (Marshall County), and Justin Thomas. I believe Justin will run away with the individual title. Payne, Thompson, Dagon Adbon, and Jordan Erlewine could contend. Paul Sansom played well this summer in the PGA Junior Series and Matthew Anderson are outside chances.

 

As for the team title, it should be a one team show -- St X is heavily favored in my book. LCA and Greenup should take 2nd/3rd. West Jessamine could do well but they're very young. Trinity and St Mary's could also do well.

Greenup is solid and the leader of their troops will contend for individual. I agree with Greenup being in the mix at the top.
