South Oldham Dragons travel to Jeffersontown Chargers for the District Opener. South is 1-3, and has lost 21 of their last 25 games in the last 2+ seasons.

 

Jeffersontown is a surprising 3-1 under their new coach, and coming off a close loss to Western.

There's something about the fifth game of the season for J-town...since 2000 (not counting this year's 3-1 start), the Chargers are a cumulative 21-15 in the first four games of the season...and a cumulative 6-49 the rest of the way.

 

This is the fifth time the Chargers have been 3-1 or better this decade...yet the team has never finished better than 4-6 (they finished 4-6 in 2000 and 2003). Easy non-district schedules? Injuries? Academic casualties? Just plain bad luck?

 

It's an interesting trend...so perhaps the Dragons' chances are better than many give them credit for...hmmm...

 

For the record, South and J-town have played four times this decade, with the two teams splitting the four contests. Jtown won last year in Crestwood, 37-20. (the win made Jtown 3-1 in 2008; they then lost six straight to end the season).
