So if a friend and I get on a crowded bus, and I see 2 open seats that happen to be at the back, and I say to them, "There's two seats at the back of the bus.", that's racist??

Again, you're in a different generation and if you've not heard it used as a joke then good for you and your generation. Older generations know how its used.
