The crosstown showdown happens tonight at South Laurel. Which teams comes away with the W?

 

South Laurel / 18-3 (4-0 region) on a 13 game winning streak

 

North Laurel / 19-6 (3-0 region) ended a 4 game losing skid last night.

North was ranked as high as #2 in the state before losing 4 straight games in the 5 Star Prep Classic, all by 1 run. South has been on a tear as of late after a slow start.

 

North has won 3 straight over South, 2 of which were in the regional title game in 2007 & 2008.

This should be a very good game. South could not hit Sears last year (2 games, 2 hits), but Taylor is awfully good as well. Good to see that Weaver rested her against Williamsburg to have her ready for the Cardinals. Both teams are very young with middle schoolers in the starting lineups, so whomever makes the fewest mistakes should get the win. I hope I get a chance to see this game. Should be MUCH closer than the past 4 meetings. 2007, South spanked North in the season, then North returned the favor in the regional title game by the same margin. 2008, North spanked South twice (season & regional title game), allowing only 2 hits in 2 games.

 

Gaines is the best pure hitter I have seen in this area in years, if not ever. North Laurel needs to shut down the other Cardinal batters if they want to run their win streak over South to 4. South needs to not let North get any baserunners as they are much faster than last year. Should be a great game.
