The opening softball game of the season for Fleming County -- and the first for new coach Nathan Ryver - -came to an end in the bottom of the fourth inning because of an injury sustained by East Carter junior catcher Heather Lucas...

...East Carter third baseman Missy Withrow charged in to make the play, but the ball came loose when she and Lucas collided. Lucas remained motionless and face down on the field until a life squad was summoned to take her to Fleming County Hospital.

Later Tuesday evening, a hospital spokesperson said Lucas was treated and released.

The coaches and umpires conferred after the long delay and decided it was in the best interests of both teams to call off the game, which East Carter was leading, 3-1.
