Henry Clay's Zarth wins third wrestling crown

Dunbar's Milford runner-up at 103

By Mike Fields - mfields@herald-leader.com FRANKFORT — Matt Zarth became the first three-time state wrestling champion from Lexington, but he had to pull out victory in the final seconds to realize his dream Saturday night.

The Henry Clay senior needed a takedown of Ryle's Michael Osborne with two seconds left to win 4-2 and capture his third consecutive 119-pound state title before a record crowd of 4,587 at the Frankfort Civic Center.

Jessie Childrey of Bryan Station was fifth at 285, and teammate Najee Calderon was sixth at 160.

Childrey and Calderon are the first two wrestlers in Bryan Station history to place in the state.

Not sure that's right. I think they had a heavyweight place back in 1975 (Kovacs, 4th), a 132 in 1979 (Livingston, 4th), and I think, a 98 pounder in 1976.
