The Engineer Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 Bryan Station and Lexington Christian seem to be the tops in my mind. Top Pitchers: (off the top of my head) Sherrow - Woodford, Boiling and Bollmer - Bryan Station, Riddle - W Hills, Stice - Lafayette, Williams - Lex Cath, Johnson - LCA
MLB50 Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 "Engineer" needs to do some homework. Tates Creek is loaded. Bryan Station will be good but probably still #3 in the district behind HC and Scott Co. Madison Central has been waiting on this group to arrive and they have several kids with 2+ years of experience returning. Western Hills graduated zero seniors 2 years ago and 1 senior last year. This is the best Wolverine team since the school was created, 2 division 1 commitments already. Woodford will be average unless the ace pitcher is allowed to play and according to Coach McDonald, this will be the best team he has had since his run to the final four. Don't forget Dunbar who will reload instead of rebuild after graduating several D1 players over the past 2 years. This year, more than any other year in the past 10, this region is wide open. The winner of this region will be the team that gets the best draw and can save their pitching for games 2 and 3 of the region tournament.
The Engineer Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Don't worry about doing homework, bud. I've done plenty. Tates Creek has a great nucleus and should challenge the city, as it should every year. I think they have the best core group of kids that they've had in the past couple years. Last year they didn't seem to be able to get over the fact that Blodgett nor Kingsley weren't healthy for the whole season. They have a very good makeup this season, but aren't as deep on the mound as maybe would be ideal. Mitchell should be a good key to the staff, and they have the talent all over....but they have no track record for making talent succeed Bryan Station is a wildcard, and is by no means an easy pick to win. However, their pitching depth goes farther than their seniors, and they could wind up winning some tight ballgames late in the year. It's a matter of how the new coach allows the team to develop....however, as we all know, anything can happen. Riddle and Queen are unquestionably Hills' best players. While they do have a supporting cast, they are not at all deep enough to make a big impact in the region. They will win games, I just don't think they can match up with the depth of LCA, Tates Creek and BS. I'm sure coach Poynter will do a fine job with Dunbar, though I think they're somewhat down this season. Eggenschweiler should be a good guy to watch, though I don't think his left handed stick will lead them to a title. But who knows. I could go on and on, but I don't think anyone is interested and I'm tired. Just don't accuse me of not doing homework.....I mean it's been 20+ years since I've done any of the real stuff
MLB50 Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 That's much better! I always like to here support "Engineer" and now you are talking baseball. However, no mention of HC, Scott Co, Franklin Co, Woodford, Madison Central, etc. Don't be surprised if this year the region champion doesn't come from outside Lexington. I know it only happens about one every ten years but Lexington is kinda spread out and wide open this year with the traditional powerhouses being down as compared to the last few years. Also, I think the other two districts may have a team or two that can finally compete with the Lexington schools. However, with that being said, I still think the favorite has to be TC. Who knows what team will come out of that district, much less the region. It does make for good conversation though...
