January 22, 200917 yr My parents were 7-17 during the depression and they said while they remember people stopping by asking for work, their families never really suffered too bad that they could tell. One's family ran a grocery and the other owned a boarding house with a small farm attached. I do know my grandfather extended a lot of credit during the depression and people later stiffed him for some pretty good amounts and took their business to Krogers.
