Hensley Rating System 3A Top 15 (2008 Edition #1)

Featured Replies

Ladies and gentlemen, it is once again that time of year for me to break out the Hensley Rating System for Kentucky high school football.

The Hensley Rating System is a simple system as it combines the power ratings from the Lexington Herald-Leader's Cantrall Ratings and the Louisville Courier-Journal's Litkenhous Ratings. Once those two are combined, the average is then taken and that average is the number that is used in the HRS.

This is something that I have done for that last couple of years for the playoffs and attempted to do last year during the regular season but my school work came in the way of constantly posting it.

Some of you may agree with how the standings for each class and the state come out while there will be others that disagree and say that your team should be higher. Please remember that this is just the average of the Lit and Cantrall Ratings.

Also, this should NOT be considered an official BGP poll/ranking OR how I think teams should be ranked. This is just something that I like to do in my spare time.

So with all of that out of the way, here is the Top 15 Hensley Rating for Class 3A:

1. Central 84.05

2. Belfry 82.60

3. Breathitt County 80.50

4. Elizabethtown 73.60

5. Henry County 71.45

6. Mason County 69.85

7. Sheldon Clark 67.80

8. Somerset 67.00

9t. Russell 66.60

9t. Paducah Tilghman 66.00

11. Russellville 63.20

12. North Oldham 62.95

13. Harlan County 61.80

14. Estill County 60.55

15. Western Hills 59.85

Interesting. It would be neat to see Cantrall and Lit, combined with Massey and any other "power ratings" for each school. I'm curious if it would basically play out the same.

Not sure. The only reason why I haven't started adding the Massey Rating is because when I started doing this a couple years ago, I just did the two that I do. When I have applied my thing to some games, I've been fairly accurate and have gotten a bunch of games within three points.
