CANNONSBURG — Area high school football teams will begin to buckle down for the season in the middle of July with summer practices, but the preparation has already began for late August.

Ten area teams from nine schools came together to compete in the 2008 Passing Tournament at Boyd County High School on Thursday. This concluded the passing league which lasted three weeks.

Boyd County, Lewis County, Lawrence County, Fairview, West Carter, East Carter, Johnson Central, Russell and Spring Valley, W. Va., were among the schools who competed. Russell divided itself into two squads.

“We’re really out here to work individual skills,” Evans said. “This really helps quarterbacks and defensive backs, especially.”

While it is not a typical football setting, the strategies involved closely resembles those seen in a typical game.

“It’s not full-fledged football, but it’s a good chance for these kids to get out and work as a unit,” said Boyd County coach Lee Evans.

This is why we use all availible avenues,to better our players its not about the coaches and what they think or the administrators and their opinions or the faculty it is about the players and anything that can be utilized to make any of our players better we should all find a way to do so no matter the price or inconvenience. And no matter the size of your program.

“We were the smallest school out here and had the smallest numbers out here,” said first-year Fairview coach Nathan McPeek. “We just wanted to come out and compete. That’s all you can ask for in a passing league.”

Fairview outlasted Spring Valley in the championship game when it connected for a touchdown to win a tiebreaker.:dancingpa

So next time your Coach brings something to you that will benefit your players find a way to help him get them to it.:thumb:
