Latest coaches' softball poll

Recommended Posts

I was searching through the final coaches' Top 25, looking for local teams, and I found this nugget:

Others receiving votes: Clark County (1) 25 ...

Meaning one person out of the 23 that voted ranked the Lady Cards number one. In the state. Yet no one else voted for them.

This seem strange to anyone else?

And before anyone gets on me, I think Clark County is a VERY good team, and deserving of top 25 status statewide. Just found it weird.

You have a very interesting point. I didn't notice that the first time I looked at it, but there it is! I found that peculiar as well. I cannot understand someone voting them #1, but can definitely see the argument that they belong in the top 25.

6. Scott County 290

7. Grayson County 288

8. Reidland 283

9. Christian County 258

10. Manual 223

11. Dunbar 177

12. Mercy 171

13. Montgomery Co. 168

14, Western Hills 161

18. Lafayette 125

19. Heath 116

20. Shelby County 97

21. Woodford County 60

21. Garrard County 60

23. Louisville Male 56

24. Allen County 36

25. Franklin County 34

Even though it's a Top 25 poll, coaches only vote for the top 20 teams. You get 20 points for a 1st place vote on down to 1 point for a 20th place vote. So Clark Co. would get 20 points for their 1st place vote, meaning one other coach could have voted them 16th, as many as five other coaches could have voted them 20th, or some other combination in between. Regardless, it is still odd that someone voted them No. 1.
