I have seen this kid(Roberts) that plays on the JV and Freshman teams at Shelby. They where playing Henry Co. last night and Shelby had got behind and had 2 runners on base with no outs. When the coach put this kid on the mound. He came in and struck the first kid out, second one was 0-2 when he got lucky and hit a blopper over the 3rd basemens head that would load the bases full not your best spot to have a 8th grader in. He got a flyball to center which a kid tagged up and scored on, then he struck the next kid out. That was an awesome job to came in and get that done with only giving up 1 run. Shelby behind in the game and guess who lead the next inning off yep Roberts with a double that sparked a Shelby coem back and a 3 run lead going into th last inning. The coach elected to take the kid out for a Sophmore to shut down Henry. He was now playing second and made a good play over at that spot. But with just one out and the 2 kids on the coach tried to put the kid back in to pitch but they umpires wouldn't allow it. That is saying alot for how much you can trust this kid to get you out of an inning. He also played in the freshman game where he had 2 hit and was the catcher. When I arrived at the ballgame he was taken infield at shortstop. The Varisty coach must be excited to have a kid with that much talent in his system. I was talking to a gentleman at the game and he said that the kid has been ask if would like to attend a private school but that he wants to play at Shelby and be with his friends. Man they have got to lucky for that.

This kid sounds like he has a bright future ahead. If he works hard on the diamond and in the classroom we should hear his name mentioned several times over the next few years.
