This was one game of a DH. Any stats or details?

Brent Bartley hit a walk off two run homerun in the bottom of the 5th for the Wildcats. It was a shot! Wolfe made a strong run in the 4th and 5th innings, they took the lead in the top of the 5th 6-5.

The Bartley kid certainly hit quite a shot. Congratulations to both him and Menifee on a nice win.

 

 

I feel the big difference in this game was the defense played by the middle infield of Menifee County. They made several outstanding plays, taking a few basehits away from Wolfe. They looked like a completly different team in game two.

 

Wolfe County came away from this game beaten up pretty badly. Starting pitcher Tyler Hayes had to leave early when he pulled a leg muscle. Dustin Drake had the flu pretty badly and although he played with a lot of heart, probably should have stayed home. He got sick a couple of times on the field, and several times on the way home after the game. Dustin is Wolfe County's shortstop and number two pitcher. Centerfielder/catcher Deron Terrill somehow got his finger stepped on during the game and suffered a hairline fracture. He will be able to continue playing, but will probably be in quite a bit of pain for the next few weeks.

 

 

The most costly injury happened early when catcher Chase Nickell got hurt in a collison at home plate when the runner failed to slide. (Coaches, remind your players constantly, that they MUST slide on a play at the plate. While this rule is for safety reasons, any out/safe calls, warnings, or ejections made by the umpires are useless to the players who get injured on the play.)

 

Nickell was taken to the hosptial and diagnosed with a stained ACL. They say he should be back in a couple of weeks. I hope they are right, but that seems pretty quick to me. He is on crutches right now. It is going to be hard to make up for losing a player that is your number one pitcher, best catcher, and clean-up hitter. Hopefully he, and the rest of the Wolfe players get well in a hurry. Not many teams can overcome losing four key players.

This is some bad losses for Wolfe considereing the All A starts next week.
