Informal Local Awards from the Enquirer:

Most Improved Players:

J.D Schmerge (Covcath)

Terrence Clark (Holmes)

Games of the year:

The Holmes-CovCath trilogy - which Holmes swept and included two overtime games - was a classic.

News story of the year:

Bank of Kentucky Center. The new arena, being completed on the campus of Northern Kentucky University, will host the Ninth Region tournaments for at least the next three years.

Stat of the year:

Two. That's how many losses the Holmes boys' basketball team has heading into the Sweet Sixteen. The Bulldogs (31-2) are tied for the school record for fewest losses in a season. To keep the tie, they'll have to win a state title.
