West Carter 85 Lewis 73

Final from Olive Hill. The final score was alot closer than the game actually was as West subbed early and often and I think Lewis scored around 8 unanswered in the final minute. Both teams had good spurts in the game. Lewis County is a very well coached, hardnosed defensive team. West played good team ball with Lee, Barker, Thompson and A. Rayburn all in double figures I believe, and Logan and Webb were close to double figures. Sorry i dont have the official stats. Except for the turnovers West played a pretty solid 3 1/2 quarters and shot well from deep.

Lewis Co. came out flat and looked very uninthused. With districts approaching, they will need to do a better job getting off to a good start or the game will get away early. West Carter played much better ball, both offensively and defensively. They made most of their free-throws and boy did they shoot a bunch compared to Lewis Co. Im not sure of the exact numbers, and I may be incorrect, but it seemed they probably double Lewis Co. in free-throw attempts. Referees did not cost Lewis Co. they game (they definitely lost it themselves), but Randy and Sonny are poor officials. Im not just talking about some of their calls, but it seems they should keep focus on the game instead of talking to fans and high school kids during timeouts and breaks. JMO. If West shoots as well as they did tonight and create turnovers on defense, they could cause some havoc within the district and region.

And by the way, what else is their to do in Olive Hill on a Friday night? I could not believe the size of the crowd.

Well theres nothing to do in Olive Hill, but this was the smallest crowd we have had all year. I would expect more fans on Tuesday, and definitely alot more come district time. I hope so, the players in this region and in general work very hard and deserve to have support from their community. Then again the girls had a game tonight, and both cheerleading squads were gone to competition, so that takes away alot of the fan base as well.

I thought the girls might have played and didnt event think about the cheerleaders. There wasnt a band there either. I would hope more come out the rest of the season. If West plays that well (and the other team plays as poorly as Lewis did), they will create trouble throughout the district and region.
