Clay County (13-3, 3-0) What’s the scoop: James Burchell’s Lady Tigers remain atop the 13th Region ratings after going 2-0 this past week. Surprise, surprise: Clay County has now put together an impressive four-game win streak and escaped Rockcastle County on Jan. 14 with a slim 49-47 win. What’s ahead: The Lady Tigers will try to extend their 13th Region win streak to 36 games with a home game slated for Friday against North Laurel. Clay County will be back in action the following day on the road against Conner and then a showdown on Monday at No. 2 Whitley County. It’s an interesting week ahead for Burchell’s squad. 2. Whitley County (12-4, 7-1) What’s the scoop: The Lady Colonels looked like they have righted their ship after losing to Middlesboro on Dec. 29. Surprise, surprise: Whitley County didn’t have any trouble at all on the road against Boyle County. The Lady Colonels won with ease, 56-34. What’s ahead: Whitley County will be on the road today against Lynn Camp and will host Rockcastle County Friday. The Lady Colonels have a home date scheduled with No. 1 Clay County Jan. 21. 3. Middlesboro (16-1, 12-1) What’s the scoop: Middlesboro’s 18-point loss to Corbin last week must have woke up Elgie Green’s squad. Surprise, surprise: The Lady Yellow Jackets are winners of four straight since losing to the Lady Redhounds, while outscoring their opponents by an average of 31 points a game. Ouch! Look for Williamsburg to capture the 13th Region All ‘A’ title this week at Barbourville. What’s ahead: Middlesboro is still alive in the All ‘A’ Classic’s 13th Region Tournament and will travel to play North Laurel on Jan. 22. 4. South Laurel (11-7, 5-3) What’s the scoop: The Lady Cardinals are 2-0 since losing against Pulaski County last week. Surprise, surprise: South Laurel looked pretty good during the Lady Cardinals’ 59-22 win over Prestonsburg and in their 55-28 victory against Bell County. What’s ahead: South Laurel has a key road game against 50th District rival Corbin today. A win is a must for the Lady Cardinals if they have any chance of still landing the No. 1 seed in the 50th District Tournament. South Laurel will be back in action again Jan. 18 at home against Jackson County. 5. Corbin (9-7, 4-4) What’s the scoop: The Lady Redhounds put up a valiant effort against Pike County Central before losing, 68-63. Surprise, surprise: Things are looking good for Corbin. The Lady Redhounds responded with their loss to Pike County Central with an impressive 62-30 victory over Knox Central. What’s ahead: Corbin will host South Laurel today in a key 50th District match-up. The Lady Redhounds will be back in action Jan. 21 at home against Williamsburg. The Best of the Rest No. 6 Jackson County (12-3, 5-1) What’s the scoop: This spot might be too low... again. No. 7 North Laurel (7-6, 1-2) What’s the scoop: Finally ended losing skid. No. 8 Barbourville (11-5, 9-3) What’s the scoop: The Lady Tigers have never been rated this high before. No. 9 Williamsburg (8-5, 5-4) What’s the scoop: The Lady Yellow Jackets are losers of two straight. No. 10. Harlan (7-8, 7-4) What’s the scoop: Why not?
