jbwill2 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I have a question: Has Ashland always been Ashland Paul Blazer H.S., or was there a time when it was just called Ashland H.S.? I noticed when reading the National High School Football Record Book that Ashland won a mythical national championship in 1931, but they just called it Ashland, and not Ashland Paul Blazer.
Ram Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 Ashland is Ashland Independent School District. The High School is Paul Blazer High School, the Middle School is George M. Varity Middle School, and the various elementary schools are Poage (Named after the founding family of Ashland), Oakview, Charles Russell, ect. Before the High School was named Paul Blazer (the founder of Ashland Oil), it was Ashland High School. There used to be several high schools in Ashland: Holy Family, and there used to be a segregated high school as well. Locally, it is just called Ashland, but around the state it is Ashland - Paul Blazer, and Ashland - Holy Family, just like Highlands is Fort Thomas - Highlands around certain areas and Male is Louisville - Male.
STRIKE3 Posted January 7, 2008 Posted January 7, 2008 I believe Paul G. Blazer High School, was established in 1963 and replaced the Ashland High School.
