Bethlehem/Metcalfe Co. Scrimmage

Featured Replies

Today. Beautiful weather for what was part of "PAC Jamboree." Adair and Beth Haven playing right now, Caverna and KCD still to come.

Metcalfe Co. won this game 26-13. 3 quarters of regular football with a continuous clock, and then a 4th quarter of regular game.

This was a barn-burner in the 1st half, with Metcalfe lighting it up with the pass and then short runs for scores, and Bethlehem with 2 long scoring passes from Travis Greenwell to Blake Stanley. Settled into more of a defensive game in the second half, and it appeared both teams started to fatigue.

Bethlehem must have thrown the ball 30 times in this game. Senior QB Travis Greenwell does a credible job for a young man who has never taken a varsity snap before. I don't think the Eagles have thrown the ball maybe 60 times in the last couple of years all told. Greenwell steps up into the pocket well and delivers pretty good ball. He tends to feel pressure too early when none exists and puts his head down rather than scanning the field when he is on the move, although in the 4th quarter he delivered 2 or 3 really excellent long passes while on the run. He also needs to learn to get rid of the ball when nothing is there, which I am sure will come with time and snaps.

Blake Stanley is a legitimate impact player for Bethlehem. He had well over 100 yards receiving today and the 2 TD's, and was the only effective ball carrier. He will be double-teamed early this season. Bethlehem has other targets too, including Joseph Haydon and Casey Robinson.

The key, per usual, will be the offensive line. Today they actually did a pretty good job of receiving the rush and running it up field, creating a pocket. Metcalfe only rushed 4 most plays, though, and Bethlehem is going to have to prepare itself for a blitzing team, because most of the patterns they run require a few seconds to open up. The line got tired in the 4th period.

Bethlehem's defense was not good today. They did not cover particularly well and did not tackle well at all. It is composed of almost entirely first-year starters.

All in all, a lot to work with and a lot to look forward to if you are an Eagle fan. I think Bethlehem could see 5-5 this year and some exciting football.

Metcalfe County is a pretty good football team. I think some colleges need to start looking at their QB Will Warf. Warf is 6'2"-6'3" tall, goes about 205-210 and is a pure pocket passer. He has a gun. In fact, in many instance his recievers can't catch the ball. I saw him throw some beautiful long touch passes, lasers to the sideline, hit men in the flat and over the middle. He shuffled from pressure without losing vision, and his head is on a swivel for 2nd and 3rd targets. I spoke with his mother, he is a 3.85 GPA student, plays football, basketball, and baseball, and has been starting QB since he was shortly into his freshmen year. Metcalfe is a team that has risen from the ashes in the last several years, has been stopped in the region title game by Mayfield 3 of the last 4 seasons. They were 9-3 last year. They have a little tailback named DeLeon who is lightning quick and has excellent moves, and complements the passing attack very nicely. Bethlehem's defense was not very strong today, so I think another view is warranted, but I think Metcalfe could be in the playoff mix in West Ky. 2A this year as well.

Agreed. Metcalfe's QB caught my eye as well,
