KHSAA Football Stats Discussion

Featured Replies

As the season winds down, I think it’s time we have an honest conversation about the importance of entering football statistics not only accurately, but on time. Just my opinion, but these stats are about more than leaderboards, or bragging rights. They represent young men who put in countless hours of hard work, and compete every Friday night hoping to help their teams win and possibly earn an opportunity to play at the next level. While stats alone don’t determine whether a player gets recruited, they can help identify a prospect who deserves a closer look.

KHSAA requires schools to enter football stats, and published guidance has called for stats to be entered within 48 hours of a game. There can also be penalties for late reporting, including fines under KHSAA policies. There are schools who haven't entered their stats since week 2 last I checked. At the same time, obviously inflated stats raise questions about fairness and the credibility of the numbers. This isn't about calling out any school or player. It's about accountability, accurate reporting, and making sure every kid gets a fair shot. If KHSAA has requirements and penalties, they should be applied consistently. Again only my opinion here but I feel it is another area the KHSAA is dropping the ball. The kids deserve it to be right, and the integrity of Kentucky high school football depends on it.

To summarize: Every legitimate accomplishment deserves to be documented. It should be put in the system in a timely manner. Every statistic entered into the system should be something we can trust. Thoughts?

If you wanna see some bad stats.. go to anyone in the top 10 of total tackles. Click on any of their games. Look at their solo tackles. Then click on the other teams stats and look and see how many chances they had for a solo tackle in that game. I looked at one earlier and as a team they had 50 solo tackles (not counting assisted). Clicked on the opposing teams offensive stats.. they had 40 total plays that could’ve resulted in a tackle. Lol
