South Warren at Logan County Predictions/Updates

6A South Warren (7-2) at 4A Logan County (7-2)

The Spartans head west across Route 68-80 to take on the Cougars of Logan County.  This will be the 11^th meeting between the 2 schools with South Warren holding an 8-2 lead in the series.  Logan County beat South in their opening season of varsity football back in 2011 (24-13) and then STUNNED the Spartans in 2022 27-17 at South Warren.  But other than those two games, South has won the other 8 games by a general average score of 45 to 3.  I have said for a while that I feel these teams should revisit scheduling for this week but think it’s time to move on from that.  For Logan, it’s probably going to take a team the level of a Tilghman to knock you out, so why not challenge yourself at the end with a team that level.  For South, you are the master RPI Jedi, you aren’t scheduling teams that will definitely beat you and schedule easier games to get wins and that really is the RPI way.  And there’s always the nice gate money.    

Logan County Cougars Information – (TP94 Rating:  62.37)

The Cougars have been super solid this year with their only losses coming at McCracken in OT by 1 point and at home vs an underrated (in state terms) Paducah Tilghman by a 37-7 score.  In the last BGP ranking, the Cougars are a solid #7 in 4A and they are 11^th in the latest 4A RPI.  They are a solid football team and really well coached.

I don’t know everything about Logan County by a wide margin but think they have had their share of injuries this season.  According to their team stats, the Cougars are led at QB by JR QB Luke Rodgers, but he has only played 3 games due to injury.  This necessitated star player SR Christian Helle to take over at QB and he did a fine job, but this likely reduces the playbook for Logan.  Hopefully Rodgers is able to go in the playoffs and this game.  At RB Lane Bush has nearly 100 carries for just over 700 yards and 7 TDs to lead the Cougars.  At WR JR TySean Thomeczek with 30 catches on the year for 535 yards and 9 TDs and 4 2-point conversions.  Defensively, Kenton Hollowell has had a great season with 73 tackles!  Well done!  Great season so far!  Except for the Tilghman game, Logan County has scored at least 40 points in every game.  Impressive!

South Warren Spartan Information – (TP94 Rating:  81.72)

Another week, another pummeling in 6A District 2.  This time at the hands of overmatched Daviess County by a 57-6 score.  But congrats to the Panthers for scoring on South as they were the only 6 points South surrendered this season in district play. 

The Spartans are led by SR QB Camden Page (1,614 yards passing with 22 TDs vs 3 INTs).  JR RB Jamir Boards continues his fine play with just over 80 carries on the season with roughly 550 yards and 9 TDs rushing and ANOTHER 9 TDs on 23 receptions and roughly 450 yards receiving.  Boards leads the Spartans in both categories.  Impressive.

Defensively, South has only given up 117 points through 9 games (78 of those 117 were given up in their two losses – Manual and Pulaski) and 6 points in district play.  Mercy.   

Game Information

This game will be played at Logan County High School football field.  I just don’t see this game being competitive.  Plain and simple.  Logan County hadn’t had much success in this series at all until 2022.  Can the Cougars find that 2022 magic and keep on their hot streak or will South Warren stay in the win column vs Logan County?
