Storm Outlook for Monday 9/21/26

A cold front stretches from Virginia through northern Kentucky and into the southern Plains. The front will slowly move south today, bringing better chances for scattered showers and thunderstorms as warm, humid air builds instability.

Across Kentucky, expect a mix of clouds and sunshine with scattered thunderstorms developing mainly this afternoon and evening. Southern and eastern Kentucky could see a little more storm activity, while northern Kentucky will have more hit-or-miss coverage.

Most storms should remain below severe levels, but a few stronger storms could produce gusty winds around 50-60 mph, frequent lightning, and locally heavy rainfall. With plenty of moisture in the atmosphere, some storms could drop heavy rain in a short period of time.

For the Cincinnati area, storm chances will be somewhat lower, but a few thunderstorms could develop during the afternoon and evening. The main concerns will be brief heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds.

Rain chances: 30-40% around Cincinnati and northern Kentucky, 40-50% across central and eastern Kentucky, and 50-60% across southern Kentucky.
