15th Region Boys Basketball Week 11:

11th week in the 15th in the books, let's look at it. A new number one this week!

1. Johnson Central (18-5) - The Golden Eagles had a great week going 3-0 and found themselves on top of the region at the right time. They beat Paintsville to complete the sweep by 16, beat Franklin County on the road by 2, and then beat Martin County on the road by 3 down one of their best players who got tossed. This is a great time to get hot. They finish up the regular season in a busy way this week with Betsy Lane, Shelby Valley, East Ridge, and Huntington Expression Prep. A sweep this week would put them on a seven game win streak going into post season play.

2. Pikeville (18-3) - The Panthers are still rolling after going 2-0 this past week. They beat Shelby Valley by 13 and Huntington Expression Prep by 24. Pikeville is playing great ball right now. They have a big game this week with Floyd Central on the road tomorrow, and Perry County Central at home on Friday.

3. Martin County (16-8) - The Cardinals went 2-2 this past week. Jekyll and Hide to a tee. Are they playing bad ball right now? Good ball? Or are they upping the schedule a little bit right now. They got beat by 33 by Ashland in a game that was never close, and dropped a tough region game against Johnson Central at home by 3. They did knock off Paintsville by 16 and Hazard by 13 though. They finish out their regular season with Pike County Central, and Shelby Valley on the road this week.

4. Floyd Central (20-5) - The Jaguars went 3-1 this past week. They had a head-scratching loss to Phelps, who is playing great basketball right now, but followed it up with a 20 point win over Magoffin County, a 2 point win over Lawrence County, and a 6 point win over Shelby Valley. They finish up the regular season with Pikeville, and Shelby Valley both at home.

5. Paintsville (13-12) - The Tigers had a tough week going 2-2. They were probably the underdogs against Johnson Central and Martin County, but a 16 point loss to each doesn’t move the needle. They did beat Magoffin County by 41 and Chesapeake OH by 8. Paintsville finishes up with Lawrence County and Betsy Lane on the road to finish their regular season.

6. Phelps (12-11) - I’m flying the Hornets up the list. They are winners of six straight, and this includes basically every middle of the road 15th team in the region. Weddington is flat out balling. Phelps beat Prestonsburg and Floyd Central both by double digits this past week. They have an extremely busy week to finish up the season. They have Magoffin County, Buckhorn, Pike County Central, and East Ridge.

7. Lawrence County (14-10) - The Bulldogs went 2-1 this past week with a 14 point win over Huntington Expression Prep, and a 16 point win over Betsy Lane. They were beaten by Floyd Central by 2. They finish up the regular season with Letcher County Central, Paintsville, and Ashland. We will see if they can find some momentum to look at going back to back in the 15th region.

8. Belfry (17-9) - The Pirates went 2-1 this past week. They dropped an 11 point game to Corbin on the road, which is always a tough place to play. They did beat Pike County Central by 17, and then Magoffin County by 25. They finish their regular season up with Tug Valley, Harlan, and Betsy Lane.

9. Shelby Valley (16-10) - The Wildcats went 0-2 this past week. They got beat by Pikeville by 13, and then got beat by Floyd Central by 6. They were riding a win streak but now are on a two game losing streak. This week will be brutal as well, as they are set to take on Johnson Central, Martin County, Mountain Mission School VA, and then Floyd Central. They need to try to go at least 2-2 on the week to carry momentum for the region.

10. Pike County Central (15-9) - The Hawks went 1-2 this past week. They beat East Ridge by 13, but then were knocked off by Belfry by 17 and Powell County by 16. PCC finishes up the regular season with Martin County, Prestonsburg, Phelps, and Lee County. They will open up the 60th with Phelps as well.

11. Magoffin County (6-20) - The Hornets went 1-3 this past week. They lost to Floyd Central, Paintsville, and Belfry. They beat Betsy Lane. This week they finish up with Phelps, Prestonsburg, and West Carter.

12. Betsy Layne (6-16) - The Bobcats went 0-3 on the week with losses to Wolfe County, Magoffin County, and Lawrence County. They finish up the regular season with Johnson Central, East Ridge, Paintsville, and Belfry.

13. East Ridge (10-15) - The Warriors went 2-1 on the week with wins over Prestonsburg and Hurley VA, but a loss to Pike County Central. They are set to finish up with Jenkins, Betsy Lane, Johnson Central, and Phelps.

14. Prestonsburg (3-21) - The Blackcats went 0-2 on the week with losses to Phelps and East Ridge. They finish up the year with June Buchanan, Pike County Central, Magoffin County, and Morgan County.
