Pendleton County 50 Nicholas County 43

Final from Falmouth

Attempt #3 to get this game in was finally successful in front of a great crowd at the Woodshed. Pendleton County honored their 4 seniors (Lilly Ashcraft, Laci Tackett, Ruby Mullins, Lily King) before the game and each were in the starting lineup. The Ladycats raced out to a quick lead, but a mini run by Nicholas County erased it and it was a 1-point game after 1 quarter.  The Ladyjackets remained steady throughout the 2nd frame and with some balanced scoring, took a 6 point lead to the locker room at halftime.  Nicholas had a few opportunities to push the lead out to double digits, but each time Pendleton County would deny that threat.  The Ladycats saved their best for last, and after trailing since early in the 2nd quarter, took a mid 4th quarter lead.  The final 4:00 of this one were back and forth, as it was a one point game with 30.6 seconds to go.  A couple of costly Nicholas County turnovers, coupled by some clutch free throws by Ashcraft ( more on those in a minute), stretched this out to the final 7 point gap.  The win puts Pendleton County in the drivers seat for the #1 seed in the district, with a game vs. Harrison (tonight) and a trip to Carlisle (next Saturday) remaining.

Congrats to Lilly Ashcraft.  With a pair of FT in the final minute, she becomes Pendleton County's all-time leading scorer, surpassing Amy Moreland with 1541 points.
