13th Region: Week 4

13th Region Boys Basketball Week 4:

With week 4 wrapping up, we still have the big two at the top. Three through eight can probably all shuffle around as we go and will continue to shift as these teams play each other. Three plays two at home so you could see some shifts there this week, and four plays six so you could see some movement there as well. We will be able to tell more about the region favorites and the middle of the pack after this week!

Rankings:

1. Bell County (6-2) - The Bobcats went 1-0 this week. They put a beatdown on Morristown East by 38, where they saw 11 different players score. Gavin Barton led them all with 15, and Buell also added in 15. This game wasn’t on the KHSAA schedule, but the 13th region media network reported on it, so if there’s any others we will hit those next week. This week it looks like all Bell Co has is McCreary Central at home in the 2A Section 7. 

2. North Laurel (7-3) - The Jaguars had a big week knocking off the state’s 17th ranked team, Marshall County, in overtime. Reece Davidson and Cooper Elza both had 15 in the win. North plays Bryan Station tonight at 7:30. After that, they are off till Friday when they play Clay County in a huge district game at home.  

3. Clay County (7-3) - The Tigers went 1-0 on the week. It was an 18 point win over Bourbon County. They’ll also play Dixie Heights tonight in the Railroad Classic. Adon Grubb led the way over Bourbon with 20, and Isaiah Bundy added in 12. They’re off till Friday, when they go on the road to North Laurel for a big time 49th district game. This will show if Clay is ready to take the next step as a region contender, or if the region is a two horse race. 

4. Whitley County (8-2) - The Colonels had a light week, but won their lone game by 30 over Harrison County. Riley Fuson had 20, Bryson Mahan had 15, and Henry Bowling added in 13 in the big win. This week they go to FL and play in the KSA Holiday Tournament in Orlando. Their opening game is Monday against Republic TN. They finish the week up in KY with a big time game against Harlan County in the 2A Section 7. 

5. South Laurel (4-3) - The Cardinals had a slow, but good week going 1-0. They beat Russell by 16 in the Legacy Nissan they hosted. They had four players see double digits, out of the 7 that scored. A very balanced attack. This week will be a slow one again, but a big one as they travel to Trinity and take on the shamrocks on Saturday. 

6. Harlan County (6-4) - The Black Bears had a great week going 4-0. They beat Rye Cove VA by 18, beat Thomas Nelson by 11, Campbellsville by 6, and then knocked off previously undefeated Beechwood by 1 to win the 2025 Taylor County Farm Bureau Holiday Classic. What a week! This week they play Barbourville on Friday, then Whitley Co on Saturday in the 2A Section 7. They can shoot up the rankings again with a win in that one. 

7. Knox Central (6-2)  - The Panthers had a great week going 3-0. Tony Patterson has picked up where he left off last time he was head coach for the Panthers. The first was a 3 point win over Owen County, a 44 point win over Fleming Co, then a 48 point win over Williamsburg. I’d like to see KC play some better competition before I move them on up, but they are winning games they should in dominating fashion. This week they play Hancock Co TN and that’s it. 

8. Corbin (3-5) - The Redhounds still seem like they’re in a rut as they went 1-1 on the week. They lost to Rockcastle by 3, then had an 11 point win they had to gut out over Jackson County in the CFIT. Eli P had 22 and 12 in the loss to Rock, and he had a big game again against Jackson Co. He seems like Mr. Consistent for the Redhounds. Corbin plays Dawson Springs Monday, and Evangel Christian on Saturday.

9. Jackson County (6-4)- The Generals went 1-1 on the week. They started it off with a 43 point win over Fulton City, but then dropped their opening round game of the CFIT to Corbin by 11. They battled all game but weren't able to finish on top. Today they play Dawson Springs, then they’ll play Sayre at home on Saturday. 

10. Middlesboro (7-5) - The Yellow Jackets had another .500 week going 10-1 on the week. They beat Harrison County by 19, before losing to Green Valley Christian NV by 3. It’ll be a short week as they only play Frankfort Christian this week. 

11. Pineville (4-4) - The Mountain Lions were off last week. This week they play Trimble County, Nicholas County, and Jackson City. 

12. OBI (3-6) - The Mountaineers went 0-1 on the week losing to Rowan County by 14. They are off this week. 

13. Harlan (3-6) - The Green Dragons went 1-1 on the week with a 4 point win over PLD and a 7 point loss to East Jessamine. The schedule currently shows them off till January 10th. 

14. Barbourville (2-4) - The Tigers went 1-0 on the week with a 10 point win over Jellico TN. This week they play WEB DuBois, and Harlan County. 

15. Williamsburg (1-7) - The Yellow Jackets went 1-1 on the week with a win over Lynn Camp, and a loss to Knox Central. This week they are off. 

16.. Lynn Camp (4-8) - Lynn Camp went 1-2 on the week with losses to Williamsburg and Buckhorn, but a win over Cordia. This week they play Lee County, and Robertson County.

17. Red Bird (3-5) - Red Bird is rolling! They went 2-1 this week knocking off Ligon Cogo and David School, but losing to Jenkins. I love to see it. They’re off this week.
