Another Shot of Winter Weather for Kentucky?

Featured Replies

Another round of winter weather may be on the way for Kentucky. A short-wave trough is expected to move eastward from just east of the Rocky Mountains. As this disturbance digs into the central U.S., a low-pressure system is forecast to develop near the Texas Panhandle and track toward the Tennessee Valley.

As the low moves southeastward and then turns east while rounding the trough, it is expected to deepen slightly. This will help pull warm Gulf moisture northward into the Tennessee and Ohio Valleys. On the northern edge of this moisture, a push of Arctic air will meet it, creating the potential for a wintry mix and areas of accumulating snow.

The exact track of the low remains uncertain at this distance, and that track will ultimately determine where the heaviest snowfall sets up. Timing is also still a bit unclear, but early indications suggest that the window for wintry precipitation may fall between Sunday morning and Monday.

More details will become clear as we get closer and model guidance comes into better agreement.
